Hope this comes out......Last time I posted a photo from my Kodakgallery, it didn't come out.

But this is what the wine gift and the cheese and fruit gift looks like. Wine opener, glasses and white wine in the Ice bucket. We took our wine into the diningroom, along with the gift card and was not charged a corkage fee. This was Feb 2009 on the Explorer.

One bottle of beer disappeared from our room on day one of our recent cruise. It was in the ice bucket and then it wasn't. It was a VB from Australia and we planned to bring one bottle home as a souvenir. No biggie as it was just one bottle and we knew we weren't really supposed to bring it on the ship but we were leaving right after the cruise.

Before you flame me, I put it in the ice bucket for safe keeping while unpacking my suitcase, there was no ice and I had no plans of consuming it on the ship.

The 2 bottles of wine my TA had sent were there with glasses and a corkscrew. No problem there.

If you plan on eating at a specialty resturant the next evening just let your waiter know where and when. If the bottle is not at the specialty resturant, ask your waiter there to have it retrieved for you -- simply give him/her your table number. We sometimes take the bottle ourselves to the specialty resturant or the Windjammer.

There are three levels of packages: Gold, Diamond and Platinum with a fair selection of wines at the three price levels. Packages range from 5 - 7 - 12 bottles and generally represent a 25% discount over single purchases.

If you have any wine bottles unopen at the end of the cruise just ask your attendant to bring them unopened to the table so you can take it with you when you disembark.

Hope this helps.
Kathy
Somebody recently came back from Mariner and reported that the wine package is changing as of January 1. I haven't seen further details, though.

Is it outrageously expensive?
Since wine is my drink of choice I would probably be better off just purchasing on board rather than try to sneak it in the Rum Runners, which was my plan up until this post.
Where on board can I buy a bottle of wine to take back to my room?

TIA,

Karen

I am crusing with a friend but I am the wine drinker, she prefers vodka, so she may have to get the Rum Runners.
As for me, I think I'm all set, thanks to all the helpful info here. Now, just please reassure me that wine delivered from room service is no problem

You can see the current wine list by following the link in my signature. I have a feeling that it may be changing, though, based on what I reported above and a comment I read on the Oasis blogs that they were training the waitstaff on new wines (which always makes me laugh since the wine service just plain sucks, so that might just be an Oasis thing).

But it's just fine to buy a bottle in a bar (selection very limited, though) or in the Windjammer or dining room and bring it back to your cabin. You can also order through room service. The full wine list is usually only available when the dining room is open, since that's when the cellarmaster is on duty.

It was a VB from Australia and we planned to bring one bottle home as a souvenir.

Dang - my last VB was in 2000. We spent 9 weeks in Perth. I miss my VB and Emu!

Wine delivered from room service is no big deal and very nicely chilled if it is white wine. When you order it, consider ording the fruit and cheese platter to go with it. No charge for the fruit and cheese and it comes with Carr's crackers. Lovely with the wine on one's balcony before dressing for dinner.

When we were in Funchal, Madeira we had a cab for the day with a private guide. He took us for some wine tasting and we liked the local rum very much. He suggested that we buy a bottle of water and empty it then fill it with the bottle of rum. We did that and there was no problem bring the "water" back on board. You can bring water bottles on board, and vodka is clear. Just a suggestion

We had several open bottles in our cabin over a 14 day cruise and they were not a problem with our attendant. We also had a wine package in the dining room (Platinum) and we could take an opened bottle back if we desired. We also ordered from our package at Portofino's and had the rest of the bottle sent to our regular table in the dining room.

We became quite fond of the Chilean Merlot.

We had wine confiscated on a ta cruise. Last time we will ever pre-tip a cabin steward.

Thanks Jean and Janet, I think I'm all set then as far as having wine in the room .
I think I'll send myself a bottle to have when we first board, then room service will be the way to go for the rest of the trip.
That's a great idea about the fruit and cheese platter, I love snacks, especially a nice glass of wine and some cheese and crackers.

I really wasn't to keen on putting the wine into the Rum Runners, I just felt it might give it a funny taste....I know, probably not, but that's just me

So now I'll have to let my vodka drinking friend know that I'm set as far as my drink of choice, she may still have to opt for the Rum Runners.

Brenda, I'm curious too...what exactly did happen?

Thanks for all the helpful information,

Karen
