Default Captain's Table

I was wondering who sits at the Captain's table in the dining room?

It depends...

Passengers are selected to dine with the Captain for various reasons and may be picked by the Hotel Director or the Cruise Director.

Normally, the Captain's table is directly in front of the Maitre d's position in the dining room so the assembled guests can be monitored for any wants or needs.

I've dined at the Captain's table twice... very nice.

On the Fantasy-class vessels, it's table # 300, a 12-top in the aft dining room. It just on the other side of the stairs (leading down from the aft lounge) when you enter the main door.

On Freedom they didn't cram the people in. The maitre d' sometimes picks as well.

And kudos to E for apparently ignoring the memo that funeral attire was required for that evening's dining experience.

I read on John Heald's blog that sometimes it is corporate, the Maitre D, but he did not mention that the Cruise Director got to decide who sat at the Captains table. Personally, I look at it, they are not going to choose everyday people, these are the big spenders on the ship, the ones that have got money to burn. Basically not difference then the big spenders being treated like royalty in Las Vegas. Just my opinion.

Default I am not a big spender, but a very frequent cruzer

and an everyday people...am chosen quite often..11 times the last 26 cruzes..mostly all in a row, for the MDR..except for twice in the Capt private DR..with upper staff. It is the table in the DR with the floral piece on it. they do not dine there every night however. There is usually the Dr/nurse, staff Capt, some dept heads, employee of the month and a guest or two thrown in. Most of my dinners,I was the only civilian. I speak Italian, have traveled extensivly, dress nicely, know which fork to use, enjoy the wine..and it dosent (as someone said, "hurt", to have a nice rack)..altho, that is not my best feature. I guess now being a Milestones cruzer..it may make some difference..if I dont get an invite, it is ok with me. If some one is with me, the invite is extended to them as well. Still, luck of the draw in a lot of cases

We sat at the captain's table for dinner once, but not on Carnival. We ended up with a suite on Celebrity and all suite owners got invited. We went. It was a little stuffy and frou-frou, and trying to follow the accent of the Engineer and Hotel Director (I think; no captain, though) was difficult for me. But it was nice.

We were glad to get back to our table of common folk though, since we fit right in!!

Only if those seated acted normally and didn't try and put on a front.

Must have been a preemptive wake. The infamous monkey overboard incident didn't occur until later in the cruise.

is talking about your family TOO stuffy?..is talking about Capt and his other guests fave ports toooo stuffy??, is finding out about your dining partners positions with the company too stuffy??? chatting about food, hobbies, tv/movies too stuffy??? Telling jokes and funny incidents toooo stuffy??? isnt thaat what fellow table mates talk about also??? what is TOOOOO stuffy about carrying on a pleasant dinner conversation? I am comfortable and confident in any surrounding, with dining in anyones company, and in any situation that affords me a delightful evening with interesting people. All of them WORK for a living,do not pretend to be something they are not, (their badge clearly states their job)and and I've never seen anyone put on a front. And , how would I know if they are???with the exception of the couple that brought their stuffed monkey, dressed in his dinner tux.(I have the pic of that one!! ) Please give me an explanation of TOOO stuffy, and I'll watch for that mode of behavior next time

The lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I dined with the Captain aboard Celebrity "Century" a few years back. I don't know why, or how we were selected, but it was a GREAT experience.

I've never seen a Captain's table, either. I'm too busy caught up in the feeding stampede.

So, which MDR, since all class ships other that Spirit have two?

I would've loved to have had dinner with Captain Lubrano on Miracle.
