We are having 4 formal nights on our upcoming 16 day cruise. With limited luggage I just can’t take 4 formals. I was planning on wearing the same ankle length black sleeveless dress for all 4 nights, but changing the wraps/shawls/long scarf.
One long scarf is maroon and black with gold threads, another is a silk sky blue fringed shawl from Russia, another is an India see-through black scarf with peacock decorations and the last scarf is made from metallic silver and gold threads. They are all reasonably different in color and fabric …..BUT do you think I am overdoing this shawl/ long scarf thing? (I also have a black long scarf/shawl to throw over my shoulders on more casual nights if it is cold). I just don’t want to stand out as the “scarf” lady. I don’t need to stand out as “WOW”………just want to blend in and be middle of the road. On every cruise there is always “that one” who stands out for one reason or another. I just don’t want it to be me!!! Advice Please! Am I overdoing it???? |

Nope! 'Ugly Scarf Lady' would wear the same UGLY scarf all day every day.
You will not be 'Scarf Lady' Your scarves sound beautiful. I am envious. You are lucky. You have a trademark.

The scarf lady, that is pretty funny and I would feel the same way. I don't know your personal style but maybe a solid color skirt with a couple of different tops or sweaters. Two nights is enough but 4 nights wow, that can be a lot to pack.
I think maybe the scarves a couple of times but maybe 4 times is overkill. I have seen ladies in beautiful dress pants and you can really change that look up as well. Good luck , Kris |

Think of the dress as a backdrop for the accessories. If the accessories make a statement, people won't notice or care that you're wearing the same dress.
It sounds like your scarves/wraps are of varying styles that each can create a unique effect. Make these scarves, rather than the dress, the centerpiece of each outfit and choose jewelry for each to create the look for each night If you are thought of as the "Scarf Lady", it will be a positive thing - people will anticipate what gorgeous thing you come up with next.

How about 1 night with no scarf, but some pretty jewelry? I'm betting there is also some lightweight dress/skirt you could pack to "change things up" a bit! You may even find something to buy midway thru the cruise.

Many of us presume that everyone else is watching us all the time, at the ready to be judgemental. In truth, that just doesn't happen. If your dress is well fitted, you wear different accessories with it, no one will be the wiser. For myself, I'd probably forego the scarves every single time and add pearls or colored bracelets/necklace a couple of the nights. Even a fancy belt and different shoes could make it look totally different.
If your dress were eye catching or unusual, such as a bright red floral print (I did once notice a woman wearing the same dress 7 nights out of a 7 night cruise...it was a bright red floral print ), then some may notice. But a black dress is pretty much a backdrop to change into different looks.Your scarves do sound lovely and I long for a cruise that is more than 7 nights. We just got off a 7 night cruise and it was over way too soon. |

Will your DH be wearing the same tux each night? Of course! So changing out the accessories is a brillant idea! Bon Voyage.

I am going on 7 nights, I am taking 4 wraps with me. I don't think you will be the "Scarf Lady". Maybe some interesting pins for your scarves would be fun.

I agree. I say wear the dress a coupld of nights and maybe take some nice black wide leg pants with a plain top and use the scarves with that!

It's times like these that I wish I was a man. They have the same outfit every formal night.

Your scarves sound beautiful. I'm sure you will look amazing, as the textures and colours will add a variety of styles and appearances.
Have a ball.

What about a sparkley sweater one evening instead of a scarf? Shouldn't take up much more room. I have seen a number in great colors (gold, red, light blue, cream) with metallic threads running through.
Also, I like the idea of wearing the dress with some great jewelry and no scarf. Maybe a terriific necklace or dangley earrings or big bracelet. |
