Sure. That's a total joke that crime is nonexistent in Cozumel. Why, then, are there police or whatever they are riding all around in open jeeps with rifles pointed ready to fire at any given time? I dislike Cozumel for that reason and I never feel comfortable there.

just guessing but I bet it has to do with keeping crime
down...keeping tourist safe. Keep the money flowing
in?

I was there that day and I am very thankful that it happened after all the ships left port. Must have been late in the day cause we left at 10pm.

My DH is already a bit nervous about visiting Cozumel so I think I will keep this incident to myself....... Crime happens everywhere and I am just glad no one was killed during this horrible incident.

I have really been looking forward to visiting Coz. The only time I went there we got on a ferry to Tulum and it took all day so no time in the town. I hope it's not going to go the way of some other Mexican cities and end up off the cruise list.

We were there Friday on the Conquest. We knew nothing of it until I just returned home. Everything was fine.

We'll be there for the first time in January. I'll admit this makes me a little nervous. I also hope that this is a one-off incident and not a sign of trouble spreading from the mainland. It would be a shame to have to avoid Mexico completely.
