I'm going in June for the Solar Eclipse, but the trip itself sounds wonderful!

I'm curious for reports from those who have booked the dormitory-type accommodations instead of the private staterooms. I've heard that they are similar to the accommodations in hostels.

Talking Dorm

Hi Tika,

We stayed in the dorm rooms. Aranui 2
It's set up like a pullman train with an upper and lower berth with a curtain you can pull closed for privacy.
The showers and toilets are shared, women's and men's separate.
I don't remember who many berths there were in our dorm, but there were only about 10 pax. there so we had our choice of location, not assigned berths.
We were perfectly happy and this is one trip I would repeat.
Enjoy your trip and please post here when you return.

June 2014, it was a trip to forget as soon as possible. Bad food, unlucky changes in Itinerary and a very ubfriendly and rude crew.

We are just back from June 2014 . Fabulous food, great crew, great sights. There were some whingers on board who wanted Maccas type fast food. You cant please everyone, if you want Maccas then go to Maccas. No cruise line worth their salt would dare serve Maccas type food .

Great Australian lingo :-)
A whinger is a whiner, complainer? I googled for Maccas. :-)

You can actually get Maccas type food on American ships, usually in the restaurant near the pool: burgers, pizza, sandwiches. It's the last food I would choose on a cruise.
