Athens Recommendations

We are taking the JOURNEY in November. Does anyone have recommendations for guides or specialized tours in Athens? Also, what about nice hotels with a good location. Thanks!

Take the trolly ride starting at the Electra Hotel downtown. It cost only 6 euros in 2008. For one hour it took us through many important tourist points, and through the various city streets too. You can hop on and hop off as you please. So you can make that tour several hours by staying some time at each stop and take the next trolly afterwards. It returns to the Electra Hotel at the end. So if you also stay at the local four-star Electra Hotel, it will be most convenient, right at the centre of the walking-shopping street, and just a block away from the high-end shopping street.

It was so nice in October, 2008, right before the economic tsunami. Now with such economic woes in Greece, we don't know what it may be like!

We have used Paul from Greek Taxis twice for guided tours. He is very good and as he lived for 20 years in the US his English is perfect

As well as your roll call, email exchanges with Paul will bring other good hotel recommendations if you ask

We stayed at the Athens Gate Hotel in October, and plan to stay there again next year. We paid for a Superior Room and had a view of the Acropolis, which you can also see from the hotels restaurant.

DH and I stayed at the Attalos Hotel June 2011 prior to our cruise on the Quest. The hotel was recommended to us by someone on this site when I posted the question last year. Great view of the city from the roof top bar. Clean, convenient to exploring The Plaka and great price.
