My timing could not be more off. Looks like she'll join me for the whole cruise--embark to debark.

Any tips?

My first cruise I got hit with my period. I knew this was coming so I was prepared.

Bring plenty of your choice of cramp relief. Mine's ibuprofen and naproxen.

Bring your choice of female party favors, there isn't a big selection on the ship and the prices will make you go

There should be little paper baggies for used female party favors in your bathroom. If you need them, write a note to your steward.

If yours is like mine, he will bring you two if you need more than that (I didn't want to leave them sitting around to fill the bag with more than one so yes, I needed more than two for the cruise.) they're also in the female public bathrooms to snatch and bring back to your cabin

I'd recommend wrapping used favors in toilet paper before putting them in the bag, it's thin paper and the fluid made the paper wet.

Also don't let it discourage you from having fun at the beach!

There are NO documented cases of shark attacks due to a woman menstruating. I jumped in to the middle of 20ft deep open water to frolic with dolphins on an excursion during a heavy day. Lived to tell the tale! No signs of sharks!

Don't flush either pads or tampons! Throw them in the trash!

Bring any and all cramp medications!

If you have a month, and are on birth control pills, you can skip the period all together, buy NOT taking the "placebo" pills!

She visited me a few days on our cruise. I use Instead Cups (have you ever heard of them? softcup.com) They are disposable and much cleaner than tampons. And you can be intimate with them in, too.

Make sure you bring way more tampons and/or pads than you think you will need. First off, they have very small supplies on the ship. And I find I use more tampons than usual purely for the fact of being in the water often (pools, ocean, etc.) and have to change more often. I agree about getting plenty of those little paper bags in your cabin for disposal. And make sure your evening bag is big enough for a couple supplies too. I also wore only my darker bathing suit bottoms while Flo was visiting (just in case). Biggest piece of advice is have fun and don't let it keep you from doing anything you want to do.

At the dollar store you can buy rolls/packages of little plastic bags for diaper or doggie poo disposal. They wouldn't take a lot of room and their relatively waterproof.
