Default Snorkeling in Cabo or PV

Hi. I have watched videos of people snorkeling on the tours in Cabo and PV. A lot of people on these tours. Looks like a swam of people all swimming in a small area. Too many people jammed together. Are there any places (tours) that we can go snorkeling that will not include a large group of people? It would have to be somewhere that provides the mask, snorkel, etc. A small group of people would be good.

Thanks.

There is little or no snorkeling from the beaches, but most of them in the ocean. So you need a ship to get there, which often will be in a group.
Snorkeling also isnot as great as in the caribean.
Around P. Vallarta best snorkeling is around the Marietta Island, again only accesible by ship.

Arrow Go independent or snorkel as a part of bigger tour ...

I think you should look for an independent tour operator to get away from the crowded ship's excursions.

I can't talk about Cabo very much. There is quite a bit of favorable comment for Pez Gato http://www.pezgato.com/

Vallarta does have a number of excursions that include snorkeling a part of a larger day long activity. The underwater structures in Baderas Bay offer few areas that attract & hold sea life. Any place worth putting on a mask & fins can only be reached by boat. (vs. being accessable from a local beach by cruisers at the port.)

The excursion to Las Caletas, a ship's excursion, is a beach day that does have snorkeling as one of the many activities they offer. Since there is so much to do, the number of people who snorkel is pretty few.

Just doing a generic Google search for Vallarta Snorkeling will bring up a number of possibilities.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the tips. I guess we rather just go for snorkeling for a short period of time, and not a snorkel - lunch - and more tour. I will keep looking to see if I can find something online. The best would be something along the lines of a 2 hour trip. Just the boat, out to the snorkel site, swim around for a while, and then come back.

I've snorkeled both many times and it is very, very difficult to reach a good snorkeling spot from the shore, so going out by boat is your best option. You can sometimes find folks to take you out in their private boat to go snorkeling, but the times I've done that it felt a little unsafe. I'd try to go with a smallish group on a real snorkeling boat. There are some beaches where you CAN snorkel, but the problem with PV and Cabo is that the currents are just way too rough and just getting from the sand past the waves is really, really strenuous and very, very dangerous. As far as the variety of fish and clear water, I would give a slight edge to Puerto Vallarta.

I went with Pez Gato in Cabos in December, it was fun and I was happy with them. We went to Santa Maria Bay where the snorkeling was decent but certainly not as good as in the Caribbean.
