This is sooo wierd! Now I can get on both sites again. Same computer, same settings - nothing changed. Maybe they got complaints, and re-opened the site???

I am going to guess that it's a FB change versus Heald or CCL changing anything on their end.
I had the same thing happen to me this morning since I am just a Facebook Lurker and I simply pressed the esc button and the login screen went a away.

For those of you who would still like to "lurk" but do not really wish to become true members of FB: Have you considered creating a fake account? My dad is very anti-FB and would complain that he never knew what was going on with the kids and grandkids. We talked him into creating a fake account. It's not even a real name (We gave him options like Ima Dad, Ida Father, and Los Parentals... He outsmarted us all and cracked us up with his choice... which I can't post here!) But now we are all "friends" with him and he can see all of my nieces and nephews' pictures and keep up with the younger ones still in college and my husband and I. Even with the pseudonym and no identifying info he still has never posted a thing, but at least he can lurk when/where he wants to!

FB is notorious for oddball glitches that pop up from time to time. Usually they are corrected within a few days and things go back to normal for you. Most times they are just a minor annoyance and usually involve notifications, or lack thereof.

It's a part of OTS (over the shoulder) parenting. It's a brave new world and we either keep up, or lose the battle. Thankfully, my two sons are 27 and 24 and my 92 yo mother handles this on FB for me now!!

I have never tried to get on the JH blog or Facebook page that you are talking about BUT, like you, I am a very private, non-voyeuristic, person and I too will never join Facebook. However, I have been shut out of a couple of sites recently (one a shopping site) because the only way to sign in was through Facebook.......so I just bought my over $120 handbag from a site I could get on without Facebook. Sale lost for them. Luckily I am just over 50, so maybe I can make it until I die and still be able to do what I do want to do online without joining Facebook.........and maybe NOT

It's not Carnival's doing. Facebook is changing the settings on business pages so only logged in people can see them. If you can still see them without an account, give it time - these things roll out slowly. Just one more way Facebook is making it harder for small businesses to use their website without paying for the privilege.

LOL - I know what you mean. I am also in the "old dog, new tricks" state of mind when it comes to FB and all social networking - except for CC! But I bet I beat you in this - I have never used an ATM machine in my life! And if a robber ever held me up, and told me to go to the ATM and withdraw money, I would have to tell him to shoot me now, as I don't have a card or password for any ATM.

I'm not interested in FB so am not a member. I don't spy on my kid (I keep track of him the old fashioned way-I speak directly with him and now when he goes off to college we'LL skype when he has time) and everyone I want to be in contact with I'm in contact with so I don't care about those aspects of FB. I spend enough time on CC that I need a life!

I cracked up when I read your post. I, too, have not been swayed by social networking sites-except for CC. Anyway, I was struck by your statement that you have never used an ATM machine before. Not that I find that out-of-the-ordinary, but because, until about 8 or 9 years ago, I still referred to ATM's as "MAC machines" and I used that term recently with a co-worker and he new exactly what I was talking about. Another (much younger) co-worker overheard us, and asked, "what is a MAC machine? I had to explain that when ATM's first came out, they were called "Money Access Centers" hence MAC. Clearly, he had not considered that there had ever been a time in the memory of anyone alive where one actually had to go INSIDE a bank to withdraw money (drive-thru notwithstanding).

If you want to see FB pages without having people know that you're really on it, just create a fake FB account. This way you can see the FB pages, but no one will know that you are actually registered. In your account settings, make everything private. This is what we did.

I think I've only posted once or twice in 3 years and no one knows its me. I use it just to lurk on friends pages and JH's page.
