HELP! Our ship docks 8:00am, June 10,2012. Our flight leaves 6:30pm. We will have luggage. We will have already done bike tour of Boston and Freedom Trail before the cruise. Maybe private tour to Salem? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. thanks so much.

Salem is kind of far. Quincy market is nice shops and restarurants. Not sure if you have kids with you but the Aquarium is fun. There are also whale watches and other boat tours around Boston.

thanks William. Will check out your suggestions. No kids. Probably will have been to Quincy because our ship does not sail 'til 11:00 pm so we are having lots of time in Boston!

If you'll be around at dinner, I suggest the Italian North End neighborhood just across from Quincy Market on Hanover St.
You'll find very nice romantic restaurants, coffee cafe's and pastry shops. Last edited by roomba920; May 7th, 2012 at 11:25 PM. |

You could probably go ahead and take your luggage to the airport and rent a car for the day. Salem does sound like a nice day. You could also go see a baseball game as Boston us playing when we dock. Looking forward to meeting you. We are doing the JFK Library one of our Sundays

If you decide to stay in Boston, you can store your luggage for free at the water taxi at Rowe's Wharf if you buy the water taxi transfer to Logan Airport ($10/pp). The water taxi leaves you at the Hyatt Harborside Hotel where there is a free shuttle bus to all the terminals. This is a good deal and leaves you unencumbered to wander around Boston. You will be there on a Sunday, so you want to be sure to check the times on any attractions.

Thanks everyone for all of your help. The water taxi to the airport sounds really good. Is the water taxi near where the cruise ship docks? thanks.

No, the water taxi is from Rowes Wharf (Boston Harbor Hotel), near Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market. You have to take a taxi or a multitude of public transit to get there.

Yes - you'd have to take a cab, but they store luggage for free. The taxi fare finder says $11.65 incl tip in heavy traffic from Black Falcon to Boston Harbor Hotel. $10/pp is also a really reasonable rate to get to Logan other than by public transit. The taxi fare finder says Black Falcon to Logan is $24 incl tip in heavy traffic. Rowe's Wharf is very nice - check out Boston Harborside walk. You can easily walk up to the North End or Quincy Market - very pleasant on a Sunday afternoon.

Salem is nice in the fall, for people who like witches. The witch museum is boring, the house of seven gables is okay. Go on the Cruise Critic sister site and see some trip adviser stuff to do in Boston, or the recommendations here are wonderful. Game tickets are available from scalpers outside the stadium, just follow the green line crowd and you will be all set on how to get there. Fanial Hall is a nice time if you want to shop and see street performers. Newbury Steet is also great. Lunch - The North End, hands down. Pick up dessert at one of the numerous pastry shops often seen on the Travel Channel.

If I was getting game tickets for the Red Sox, the two things I'd try are:
In advance: StubHub, as you know the tix are legit, and prices (I understand) are below face Day of Game: Near the RF entrance is the Red Sox' "Scalp Free Zone", where ticketholders unload extra tix directly to buyers (with Red Sox personnel making sure the tix are legit). You can often get below face tix here as well, but you'll never pay more than face. The way the team is going, these should work just fine. |

The Sox are good at making tickets seem scarce, especially when they first go "on sale". Right now there are pretty good pairs available on Redsox.com, and tons of tix on Stubhub.
