We recently were made aware of "cruise critic" and look forward to making new friends. We are in our 70th and have done a few cruises, we particularly enjoyed the Baltic and the Mediterranean cruises. One of the issue has always been shore excursion, particular on the Mediterranean and Baltic cruises, we wished we could have shared transportation and enjoyed the sites at our leisure rather then traveling on the buses provided by the excursion companies. We plan to stay 3 days in San Diego and are looking for a upscale hotel in the downtown area close to the water. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We are Owen and Inge from Burlington (outside of Toronto) and Hartmut from Berlin.

Hello I see the group here is relatively new to CC or atleast does not post often so I wanted to help. If you look on the main page there is a section that reads Roll Calls and then it lists each cruise line. Click Celebrity Then Infinity and see if the date of your sailing already has a group. If not you can start a new roll call thread there and will most likely get many to join.
Have fun, Patty

We're glad to see that there are some more have posted on the G&L roll call for the Nov 7th sailing of the Infinity from Fort Lauderdale to San Diego. Looking forward to meeting all of you on the ship. We're staying at the Hyatt the night before sailing so let us know if any of you are staying there also and maybe we can get together for a cocktail.

Our party of 3 has now become a party of 4. Looks like we have only 10 people signed up Question: how do we meet on the ship.

It has been our experience that the staff on the ship usually designate a place and time on the ship, usually a bar, to meet. This is usually posted as "Friends Of Dorothy" by the front desk. We've usually had good luck meeting people on this board beforehand and then arranging to meet at the FOD events or even going to dinner the night before the cruise. Marc and Greg |

Here are a few suggestions: Any in the Gas Lamp district, I like the Marriott but there are many. On the San Diego side of the bay about 12 minutes from downtown is the Hyatt, Marriott and Hilton right on the water. These are convention hotels. The Westin inside Horton Plaza is usually the least expensive and right in the middle of things. There are a number of lodging choices that are less expensive just a block from the Cruise terminal. You will not need a car for any of the above if you want to stay in town. The big splurge is the Hotel Del Coronado but you will need transportation.

I just finished a fantastic Panama trip on the infinity. I was with a Gay Group from Pied Piper.. there were about 40 of us, and we found about 20 more "friends of Dorothy" on board.
the martini bar at 630 was the gathering time. Also look for Liz in Cellar Masters on 5th floor. She is hysterical with a heavy pour. The Men's accapella group "north by northwest" -- the Tenor - Seth.. is family and was pleased to hang w/ is during his free time. (the other guys are quite gay friendly and offered several impromptu concerts during the trip). hope ya'll have a great time.. it's was an amazing trip for us. |
