Default Last Day in Honolulu

As thousand of others that have been in this situation, our ship will port in the morning and our flight, by choice, is in the late afternoon. Our hotel does not offer a day reservation and they will secure luggage only for hotel guests. Any suggestions on how others have handled this situation? Thanks.

I booked an excursion through NCL (Pearl Harbor & Honolulu) that lasts a few hours and will drop us and our luggage off at the airport by 4PM. Depending upon when your flight leaves, NCL offers other tours that are either longer or shorter. Additionally, there may be other tour companies offering tours that may provide the same type of service.

Aloha

NCL now has a day room package available. Transportation form the ship to the Marriott, check out is at 6 pm. We booked it although it is a little pricey we thought a day of relaxing at the beach, shower and then head to the airport. We reserved transportaion for pick up from the hotel to the airport at 6:30.

We had a flight at 400 and, so, the day room option didn't really seem practical. We did Pearl Harbor before the cuise, so that was out. Accordingly, we stored our luggage at the pier ($5 per bag) and then took a taxi to the Honolulu Zoo which is right at the end of the main drag in Waikiki toward Diamond Head. There was an Art Show set up right outside and a surfing contest going on across the street. Spent a couple of hours there and then walked back toward all of the activity. Did some last minute shopping, had some lunch and a couple of drinks. Then we took a taxi back to the pier, retrieved our luggage and headed to the airport. It was good way to get some walking in before sitting on a long, overnight plane flight. A more ambitious option may have been to take a taxi to an then hike up Diamond Head, but we had done that prior to the cruise as well. If your flight is at 600 p.m. or so, you might want to consider a food tour. Check out the "Hole-in-the Wall" food tour. We also did this before the cruise, and it was great, but could have done it after the cruise had we had additional time. We got picked up from our hotel at 920 a.m. and were returned to our hotel by 300 p.m. Don't know if they'd pick up at the Pier and return you o the pier, but you could ask. Otherwise, you could store your bags at the pier, take a taxi to a Waikiki hotel and then have then pick you up there.

The Honolulu airport is quite nice and not your run of the mill airport, they have Japanese Gardens with benches, ponds etc. Never had a problem finding a bench as It's sort of hidden and not too many people know about it, in fact we missed it on our first trip. Grab a bite to eat and go outside.
They also have some nice shops but or course not cheap but was good for browsing.

As side note don't try to go early and drop luggage off because the airlines there will not take luggage earlier than 4 hours prior to flight, mainly because the ticket counter for your airline will not be open.

Have you checked with the Hilton Hawaiian Village? I think that I remember a couple people reporting that they booked a day room here for around $90. It seemed like they were happy to have a place after the cruise and be able to enjoy the beach before heading to the airport. Cherie

I checked with Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach and they do NOT do day rates. We were planning to rent a car but have concerns about safety for our luggage in the car. Is this a bad idea?

Waikiki Marriott Resort and Spa. It's at the far end of Waikiki near the zoo.

Marriott Waikiki Resort - it is at the far end of Waikiki on Kuhio Beach. It is a nice hotel, we always stay there pre cruise for 2 nights and so this time we added the day room post cruise also. We thought we would do a little shopping, and relax before our overnite flight. As I said, they take you from the ship to the hotel and then you are responsible for your transportation to the airport. 6:00 pm is check out so we have transportation picking us up at 6:30 which will still be plenty of time before our 10:00 departure. I wanted to spend minimal time at the airport and more time on the island. If you are interested just call NCL and they will book it for you.
