Default NCL Star

I am new here and not really a cruise type person. I am booked on NCL's Star for a Bermuda cruise on 10/07/12. My wife loves to cruise so I decided that I would make her happy and plan this cruise vacation to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary.

Well, I am already regretting my decision! I am so disappointed with NCL and I haven't even boarded thier vessel. I wanted to make this cruise special so I upgraded to cat. MA "Mini Suite". I am sure many who read this knows, but I am not in a suite at all. I am in a larger balcony room, not a suite! What a deceptive and misleading cabin description! This will be my first and LAST cruise on NCL, regardless if I enjoy this upcoming cruise or not. I despise companies who mislead their customers with false advertisements.

NCL...call your cat. MA "mini suites" for what they actually are....$800 more for 25 additional sq. footage for a balcony stateroom!!!! You could've had two new life long customers but since you have to false advertise to increase your revenues, you lost this potential increase in customer base as well as all that we describe this NCL practice to. Way to go NCL!

I agree with you that the term mini suite should not be used. Deluxe balcony would be a much better term.

The being said, I think you will love the Star! We sailed on it in May and then again in August because we loved it so much. The ship staff and crew is the best we have ever sailed with.

I hope between now and October you will find some things to be excited about so that you will be able to sail and enjoy.

If you need any help planning, just let me know!

Cherie

P.S
Be sure to keep an eye on the suite prices so that if they become available or your cabin comes down in price.
I just looked at your sailing and the price difference is only 200 pp....you might want to check and see.

Did you read the cabin description before you made the purchase? If not, learn from your mistake. Always know exactly what you are getting when you make a purchase. I have found that often items have a name that makes them sound much better than they are.

I suggest you forget about the over named cabin and relax an enjoy yourself. If you persist with the attitude, not only will you have a miserable time, but so will your wife.

NCL isn't the only cruise line that uses the terms "mini suite" or "junior suite" to describe a larger balcony cabin that doesn't have full suite amenities.

It's a common industry practice...I'm not defending it, but that's what it is. It's done because it allows the cruise lines to advertise a lower entry price for "suites".

Keep watching, we have gotten some great deals on suites that have opened up. Also, if you call your TA or PCC or whomever you book with and let them know that their is a discepancy bewteen the price you paid and the listed price now. Sometimes they will give you some OBC. Please do not expect it, but it does happen from time to time.

Cherie

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

NCL isn't the only cruise line to do this.

Back in 2003 HAL re-worded all their cabin categories and many people are confused by the different categories and think they are entitled to certain perks that are only for a few categories. HAL's descriptions are poor.

So sorry this happened to you.

Default Your responsibilty

You should have done your research. The NCL website has all the information available to you. I would never spend that much without knowing what I was purchasing. Man up and take responsibility for your mistake.

Research, research, research...before you make your deposits.

I do hope you enjoy your cruise though.

Agreed. No false advertising at all. It is very clearly stated on the NCL website what is and IS NOT included in the different cabin categories.

Mini Suites make no mention at all about butler/concierge or any other suite perks.

This is like buying a car without air conditioning and then complaining that it does not have air conditioning. About 25 seconds of research would have eliminated your aggravation. Not the fault of NCL.

I hope you enjoy your cruise as it is a great way to vacation. If you are able to move past your initial disappointment and go with an open mind I'm sure that you will have a great time.

It is deceiving but is done on all lines and other businesses. They always make things sound better then they are.
We have not been disappointed with ncl but we decided to try celebrity. I was ready to cancel after dealing with their web site and their IT department. I just know the cruise will be awesome so I will overlook their shortcomings!

I am constantly doing my research, asking questions, googling everything under the sun and then of course getting multiple price quotes from the cruise line and TA's before making any decision.

From your vivid description of how you feel about cruising, I hardly doubt that this 1 cruise was going to turn you around enough to be a "life long customer". You have made it very clear over and over how you feel about cruising, that you don't want to go, and that you are only doing it for the wife.

My thoughts exactly. Most people don't book something so expensive without researching it first and making the proper decision.

Thank you Nalagh for your Star information.........we board the Star this Saturday, I am looking foreward to some sea days and no Island Hopping or schedules

The NCL site has dimensions of all accomodations with dimensions and even 360 videos. Also, there are posts here in Cruise Critic, or just google a Cabin number, you probably will find reviews, photos, youtubes showing every ships room somewhere on the net.

So, now just go enjoy! You have a very nice suite I am sure, walk around the ship and check out other decks (peek in doors)
