Not in the places where most spills can occur. Look again.

This is how the problem occurs. Some people just don't realize where the carpet ends and the "marble" begins.

Whooooops! (where is Spike Jones when you need him?)

Guess what. That same stuff? On your shoe! :O

I don't want to see anyone's dirty shoes in the MDR. Filthy poop shoes.

So this is OK
http://www.amazon.com/ALDO-Sparlin-W...=pd_sbs_shoe_6

But this is not:
http://www.amazon.com/Volatile-Women...volatile+wedge

I think the top shoe is actually closer to the yucky floor.

For the record, I love the rhinestone ones.

I don't really understand this logic.

Some high heels cover less of your feet than flip flops. If you go into a restroom you are probably carrying some poo on your feet. Does it matter if it is the shoe or exposed shin on your foot?

I agree. If you're worried about poo germs from the bathroom, feet get washed more than shoes do.

I think all the consternation with the "dress code" boils down to the fact that the people who are rule followers just get annoyed that they are conscientious and do what they perceive as the right thing and it upsets them that others aren't as diligent. My mother, bless her heart, always drove the speed limit even though she was holding up the traffic on California freeways and became more of a risk to other drivers. When you would urge her to keep up with traffic she always answered that she was following the "law" and she was right and everyone else was wrong. Technically she was right but she just wasn't savvy enough to understand that the world was moving a lot faster than she was comfortable with. Same with "dressing" for dinner. The world has moved beyond closed toe shoes for both men and women. Thong type sandals are acceptable footwear in many situations...in Arizona even men wore them with their silk shirts and dress slacks and that has been the norm in many an Asian country for decades if not centuries. The freeway is definitely moving faster but many aren't comfortable keeping up with the flow.

I live in fl. And don't even own a pair of shoes! Wear "flip flops" all the time but some of them are very dressy. OP, the type you are talking about are standard wear on cruises in the MDR.

Two thumbs up! The best, most succinct explanation of CC MDR dress code friction I've read! Dinosaurs, please move to the right lane.... we are passing you doing 80 in our Guayaberas and bedazzled flip flops.

Keep thinking like that Mr. Pete, and you'll end up wearing kleenex boxes on your feet like Howard Hughes, poor man. Germs are the same on the bottom of flip flops or army boots.

Since when is it okay for a customer to change the rules of a company? If they said "No purple shorts", does that allow someone to wear them because they feel as though it should be acceptable because they are "cute" or "in fashion now". Rules are rules are rules are rules. If you start insinuating that customers can change a companies rules to make it better for them because thats how the customer wants it, we are all screwed and this "Me" society is gone to hell in a bedazzled handbasket.

Who is changing the rules? They state no beach flip flops. If they meant no flip flops at all they would have stated that. There is a difference between beach flip flops and nicer flip flops that you would wear with clothes. Just because you disagree doesn't make it so. And the reality is that if carnival or any other cruise line wanted to stop it they could. They chose not to. And if they allow it that is all that really matters. Peoples opinions here of right/wrong are irrelevant.

I think the answer is simple and I know it has been said but I will say it again. If you are willing to wear them to the beach they don't belong in the MDR. I have a pair of Nike flip flops that are so comfortable but I would not wear them to the MDR. I have a pair of white strappy sandles (no back strap so in some people's eyes....flip flops) that are not so comfortable (impossible to find these in such a wide size) but I will wear them to the MDR. I also have a pair of Sketchers that look like black ballet shoes that are SOOOOOOOOOO comfortable and I will wear them anywhere (except the beach, I don't want the sand and water to ruin them) including the MDR. Now I did not wear them to the MDR on elegant night but I did change out of the heals into them afterward staying in my dress.

Define "purple"!!

I'd hazard a guess that eggplant and lavender would still work but once you get into the mauves.... All bets are off!

Unless your flip flops are on upside down, your feet are not exposed to the floor.

Just to clarify, these are what I consider to be flip flops:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zorries

I just don't consider them to be appropriate for the MDR. I think they're way more casual than sandals are, they're made to be worn at the beach or the pool not in a dining room. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Lol. Really? So all those test results are wrong, and yours are right? Where have you published your analysis?

Staphylococcus aureus is not an appetizer on the menu.

Lol. How often do you touch the bottom of either to your bare skin.
