Default Booking more than 12 months ahead

Has anyone done this and do you need special travel insurance; insurance only lasts a year so you would have to renew it. Not sure I would have the courage to book so far in advance, it would seem somehow like tempting fate.

We book more than 12 months in advance mainly to get the cabin of our choice. The only thing financially you would lose out on is the deposit - our was £300. It is a gamble but at least we have secured a great cabin.

Hello there,

We are about to embark on a cruise that was booked in October 2010.

We constantly book over a year in advance to take advantage of the cabin choice and price at the time.

As for insurance, As you stated we just renew it every year anyway.

The only issue the keep in mind is that if you book your own flights then you cant book those until 9-12 months in advance and there will almost certainly be a price increase when it because available.

Its never been a problem for us.

I book up to 18 months in advance . I don't require insurance because I always book with a fully refundable deposit.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still not sure I'd take the risk; part of the problem is that once we had decided on a cruise I would have to stop looking at other cruises because I'd be forever wondering if I had made the right choice.

Thats the issue for us in Europe as we lose our deposit or, have to pay a hefty "admin" fee every time we make a change. However,...such is life......

As Ronpes says, we would lose our deposit over here in the UK. And we have to have travel insurance.

We always used to book well in advance but some of the late deals over the last 12 months of so has made us think again. The fact that we are both now retired means we can go anytime........

I read somewhere that insurance doesn't cover pre-paid gratuities, though- but I could be wrong on that. We had to claim on 2 cruises Back to back this year, but hadn't paid up front.

Unfortunately, we don't have that option available in the UK, and this part of the forum is mainly aimed at cruising from the UK by UK cruisers.

In reply to the original question, we always go online and get various quotes for our annual policy, and make sure there is no gap.
