Are the shops open in Dunedin on a Sunday or is the place pretty much closed?

Went there last Dec on a Sunday on the Celebrity Century. Shuttle was available from the Port Chalmers. We hired a car from Thrifty pre booked this before we left. Not sure about all shops but the ones near the cadbury factory were open. The Cadbury factory was, had tours going regularly and there shop was also open.

Thanks for the reply. I have found some will be open. Decided against a car but will be spending a few hours around town and then a 2 hr tour of some of the sights. That should fill our day.
Thanks again. |

Some of the shops will be open . Supermarkets and stores geared to tourists are generally open 7 days. Last year a ship called on Christmas Day and the good people of Dunedin still turned out and opened the necessary stores so they could host their visitors
