Still Hangin' With The Primate Posse

I think I did Sharon proud, its after 11 pm and we just finished packing and have to be up tomorrow at 6 am!

Well we are officially 30 days out from the wedding! So it seemed logical that we should select all our alcohol. This is what we came up with:

Cocktails

One Shilling
Five Islands Rum, Nicaraguan Rum, Trinidadian Rum, Cardamaro, Asinthe, Pineapple, Lemon, Angostura Bitters

Autumn Swizzle
Venezuelan Rum, Apple Brandy, Yellow Charteuse, Lemon, Maple Syrup

Classic Manhattan

We will then have Champagne and six types of wine - three red (Syrah, Pinot Noir, Cabernet-Franc), three white (Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay). One of each of the wines will also be a local NY wine. Now we just also have to decide if we want beer but I'm thinking no. This is a classy old school new york affair I'm throwing here!

The reception venue is amazing. It screams old school new york. It has dark floors, huge windows over looking Madison Park, all sorts of decorative paneling, etc. The food was also the best food I have ever had in my life. I posted a few photos on facebook but since I know you guys love your food porn I'll post a few here as well. Sorry the quality is not great as I took them with the my phone. The first is of an oyster from NY.



This second photo is sea urchin with some sort of foam on top, I forget.



We also had two other little things. One was some beet/goat cheese/cranberry thing. It tasted of dirt to me. The other was a smoked sturgeon with some sort of foam and oil. That was delicious! They also had these home made rolls that were like a pillsbury cresent roll but a million times better. Finally this is a photo of my entree. It is lobster with charred leeks. It was AMAZING! The photo does not do it justice. Pete had some sort of steak thing that was equally delicious. Dessert was then a white chocolate, orange, and lavender thing.

Well I know everyone will be coming back this week but sadly I'll be heading out. My grandfather passed away last night so I'm getting ready to fly home this weekend for all of next week. It's weird because even though we knew this was coming, he had congestive heart failure, it still seems very weird. He went to the hospital last weekend with trouble breathing but was sent home with hospice care the following day. My parents then went and saw him and my mom said he seemed to be doing much better so I guess in my mind I thought it would be longer and I would see him at Christmas.

I haven't been to a funeral since I was a little kid and my mom's parents passed away. I feel so bad for my grandmother. I can't even begin to imagine how hard it must be. They have been together since they were teenagers. My extended family has not all been together in years, probably since I was in college, but everyone is going home now. It is sad that this is what will bring us all together...

I still crack up about that magnet. Ryan called me today as during the cruise I promised I'd email him gift ideas. I forgot. SO he called feeling badly that he didn't send me a gift. I told him "That's OK. My "cruise son" sent me a card and a magnet" and then read him the magnet and we both had a chuckle. I just LOVE the "SAYS" part and I go around saying it to ppl. I SAYS to myself.... LOL

and remember...61 is really 16 if you're dyslexic!

Hello, everyone. We're back. Barely. I got norovirus on the last night of the cruise and am still battling my way back to health. I was sick as a cat the whole night and next day. (I would have said "sick as a dog" but I know how much BHT doesn't like references to sick dogs.) I'm not sure how many cases we had, but we were in full noro lockdown the last few days and I personally knew four people who got it. The dining room was also less crowded. But worst of all, Sharon, they took away the bread baskets. They served individual pieces from a tray. Also, no butter/cream cheese/hummus or whatever it is tray. Just wrapped packets of butter. Salt and pepper shakers removed, etc.

But despite that it was a wonderful cruise, at least the first 14 days. I'll fill you in and post some pictures when I feel better and have time to catch up on CC. I can't believe it's less than eight weeks before the next cruise. This time I'll follow their advice about keeping my hands clean. Anytime I touch anything like a railing, door knob, slot machine, etc., I'll lick my hands clean. That ought to keep me healthy.

So sorry to hear about you illness but glad you enjoyed the cruise. What you need it some TLC - where is BHT when you need her - Oh forgot she has her own problems with her "puppies" Poor Sharon. In any case do feel better real soon. If you need chicken soup let me know and I will fedEx you some - can't promise it will get to you though. LOL

WELCOME BACK LARRY and MRS. LARRY! I'm sorry you got sick, and though I caught an upper respiratory thing on my cruise I wouldn't trade it for noro even though I'm now coming up on 2 weeks of coughing and sneezing.

I'm glad you had a good cruise otherwise (though how one could consider it a good cruise sans bread basket I'll never know). I can't remember but I think you arrived back in FLL? I hope so because the thought of noro and a plane flight is very daunting.

NOTE TO SELF: stick around w/ LARRY all next cruise in all public places, so that after touching a hand rail, I can ask him to lick my hands clean. OR NOT!
