Concert At Sea

What exactly is a "Concert At Sea" cruise?

We are currently booked on a cruise and someone on our roll call cancelled because they were told it was a "Concert At Sea" theme cruise.

Not planning to cancel ... but would like to know before we go so we'll know what to expect. HELP!

Isn't that one of the 60's music theme cruise featuring Paul Revere and the Raiders, BJ Thomas, Mary Wilson (Supremes), The Drifters etc on a Princess cruise ship?. A private promoter is sponsoring it , which usually means in order to attend the concerts and events you have to book thru the promoter? Depending on the size of the private group will determine how it will impact guests who are not part of that group

It's exactly the sort of music we like. Unfortunately, we aren't booked through the promoter. Maybe our TA can arrange for us to pay extra to attend the concerts?

How BIG of a fan are you of the music of that era? Looking at the "raw" numbers (inside cabin) it's about a $1000 difference in price (prorated over 7 days about $140 per day more) and you are talking about a January 2014 cruise date, so you have plenty of time to adjust your cruising budget
The Crown Princess holds 3080 and according to the promoters website they had a group of 1000 on their cruise last year which means it will impact dining times, room venues etc.
You can have your TA contact the promoter to see how you can join their group. I have been on 2 cruises as part of a private group featuring 60's oldies artists and had a BLAST!!!! Well worth the price differential. Imho...plus you have the option of being able to participate in regular ship activities while the non group cruisers cannot attend your private events. Not only do you have the nightly concerts, but there are planned theme activities with the artists on sea days. In essence you are getting two cruise experiences in one week. Cruising with 1000 oldies music friends is alot more fun then 2000 strangers

That's exactly what we did earlier today. Our TA talked to the promoter and arranged it for us. For an additional $500 pp (our TA keeps our booking ... just sends them $1,000 which she charges to our AMX) we will be considered a part of the Concert at Seas cruise ... get the t-shirts, wrist ban, attend all special functions, etc.

Glad you thought it was well worth it! We thought it would be! Normally, we are rather happy about taking a cruise. This is the first time in ages we have actually been EXCITED about one!

Any chance you would consider going? That would be so FUN!

Yes, it's on Crown Princess January 18th. We're making ours into a B2B so will be there the following week as well.

Glad it worked out for you and thanks for the invite but I will be just coming off the full charter Capital Jazz SuperCruise in November...so many great music theme cruises and not enough money or time
I am a child of the 60's and remember seeing most of the artists on your cruise live in concert on my college campus...from time to time these days we attend the PBS concerts (that you see during their annual pledge drives) and it's incredible because the entire audience knows every word to every song and sing along with the artists and do the dance that were current at the time.
The neat part of your cruise is the interaction you have with all of the artists and the friendships you form with the other members of your group. I bet you will sign up for next year's cruise while you are onboard this one.
I spoke with my friend who is a TA and sends alot of her clients on music theme group cruises and she indicated that you selected a good one. Have a great time and don't forget to bring your 33 1/3 LP album covers to be signed by the artists and a really good SLR camera with an extended lense to take great pictures

The "Concerts at Sea" cruise has been changed from the Crown Princess to the Caribbean Princess on 1/18/14. It will depart from Houston, Texas now. You might want to take note of the change. Last year they had 600 concert goers on the cruise. They use ship venues that are not normally open. In fact, when there are private concerts/events on the ship, you will have full use of the ship with little crowds (ie. casino, clubs).
