Is there a hotel bidding site for Australian hotels? In the USA I use Priceline but I don't see much activity there for Au & NZ.

you can bid on priceline for our hotel but we don't have an equivalent style site.

The most commonly used are wotif.com.au and lastminute.com.au

For the most part you get a better deal booking direct

You can bid on hotels in all the major cities on Priceline.

That said, there's a much larger range of hotels available from local sites like mentioned above.

Our previous trips to Sydney I was quite satisfied with Priceline (Marriot Circular Quay) but for our trip in April 2014, I was unable to get anything.

John: The Marriott is the exact hotel I'm hoping to get through Priceline. How far out did you bid last time? When was that trip....how much was your winning bid?
