I'd like to know too. I called Carnival guest services today and they told me there was no promotion like this available. I'm cruising on the Fantasy in 17 days and would love to book another cruise and get to Platinum level !

On CCL I may or may not go to steakhouse for one night. Apparently on NCL most people will go to specialty restaurants numerous times on a cruise.

I received an email today about a VIFP "Exclusive Offer". I was hoping someone knew for sure, but I bet that is it. Guess I'll have to call, been waiting for DD1 to know her graduation and RN test dates prior to booking this year.

While I was looking under the VIFP offers, I selected one that was assigned to my number (this one was not one) but when I looked at the terms and conditions, it lists all of the current promotions going on. I happened to see this promotion listed as "Up to $100 off past guest rates per stateroom & up to $100 OBC/& one-time platinum status (OW8)". It listed a website to go to carnival.com/specialplatinum and you enter your VIFP number and then continue to register for the promotion. For the fun of it, I tried putting my number in, and it said I was ineligible for the program. BUT, I am only at red status, so maybe someone who is at gold status would qualify. If you happen to call, I would imagine you'd mention code OW8. At any rate, it doesn't hurt to try! Hope that helps.

This also was in the My Offers section on CCL, but when I looked today, it along with most of the offers had been removed.

The fine print states: Must book between 12/28/13 and 1/31/14 to be eligible for a one-time temporary Platinum status upgrade.

So it's basically free FTTF for one sailing.....

Actually rena, it is more than FTTF. Platinum also receives laundry service, BOGO for slots/blackjack tournament, and embark lounge/waiting area. Just wondering if they also will receive the chocolate delight in room one evening, ship pin, and CCL logo gift, which are also Platinum benefits.

Gotcha. Actually, as I stated earlier, CCL giving temporary platinum status as an incentive to cruise may be a good marketing ploy, but I definitely think it stinks. To me, it just re-enforces the perception that CCL is desperate to fill cabins, and will try anything to get people on board. After 18 CCL cruises (2 in 2013) they are not the line DW and I fell in love with.

I think it is another slap in the face to Platinum cruisers.

I just received an email survey from Carnival last week asking about the VIFP club. Wish I had seen this thread before I left my comments. They would have been worse than they were.

Maybe those of us who purchase FTTF should complain about all of the temporary platinums cutting in front of us in line

So, evidently I'm in the minority. As a Platinum cruiser, I see no problem with Carnival using this temporary perk as a marketing strategy.

I'm sure we all realize that a great many of us "old timers" on Carnival landed into the Platinum status when Carnival announced this loyalty program. We really didn't "work" for it. We had enough cruise under our belts to fall into this category. The point I'm making is that we were given these perks. We would have cruised Carnival regardless of these free perks.

Now, the same people are complaining that Carnival is "giving" this temporary status to people who book under certain restrictions? As a Carnival stockholder, I think it's a great idea. This promotion has basically no cost to Carnival. For those cruisers with 6 or 7 cruises, or 50-60 days at sea, it might "tease" them a little to see what the Platinum status is all about. After trying it out, it may encourage them to book another couple of cruises so that they can sail with the Platinum status permanently.

My father taught me not to worry what someone else has, just worry about yourself. As a Platinum cruiser, do I really care if someone else gets free laundry? Do I care if someone else gets a Platinum ship pin? Do I care if someone else gets BOGO in the Casino for tournaments? And, do I really care if there is one or two people ahead of me in line at the Guest Services desk? The answer is no.

They are not slapping anyone in the face. They are not cheapening the product. It doesn't appear that they are having trouble filling the cabins. It's just a good solid marketing idea that will be profitable in the long run.

I agree, I think it's a great marketing campaign. It's fantastic incentive to get more people to repeat cruise. I just wish they would have offered it to us gold peons too . I would have like to have seen how the other half live....

I just received platinum status last month (Dec. 2013 on Glory). I have 71 days, so I would have made platinum on my next Carnival cruise anyway. Although some of the perks are nice, they're certainly not something to get really excited about. I got that e-mail survey about VIFP too, and when they asked about what I would like to see added, I listed discounted (for platinum) and free (for Diamond) internet packages.

The one thing that really irks me about the past guest perks is that whole thing about going to the MDR for your complimentary beverage. That should be able to be redeemed at any bar on the ship IMHO.

About these " VIFP offers," I have NEVER in all my years of being a past guest or VIFP, or whatever, seen any offers posted to that page. It always says:

* There are no new Special Offers at this time

Every now and then, I check on DH's VIFP page (he's Gold), and I've never seen one on his page either. We also hardly ever get any e-mails from Carnival, even though we are both signed up to receive promotional offers.

Go figure...

Go figure...
Same for us too. I guess we don't fall into the "demographic" that gets sent the emails see below:

This promotion is being offered privately to a certain demographic of Red Level guests so they can experience what it will be like to work towards the 75 cruise days they will be required to do in order to reach Platinum Level status permanently. It is a one-time deal to extend Platinum level benefits on one cruise only that cannot be offered as an exception to guests outside of those selected. Guests selected for OW8 and who choose to use it will then revert to their respective level upon completion of their sailing and will be required to complete their 75 cruise-day requirement to reach Platinum Level status under the VIFP Club.

Heck, we don't even make the cut for the casino perks and we spend a lot of time there on EVERY cruise...
