Oh yes, I have never seen this many self assist at a port before! Everyone we saw was doing ok with luggage.

I take it back....maybe diamond was 5. Our lovely stateroom attendant tried to give us the 5 and I think that might have been for diamond and I was wondering why we didn't get suite.

We're in Houston now...it's raining pretty good.

I still think the bulk of the problem is a) Passengers not following directions, and b) RCI not trying to force people to follow directions. The crowding of stairwells and elevator lobbies is dangerous and drives me crazy. IMO, all the people hanging around near exit doors with their luggage before the ship even docks need to be escorted elsewhere by security.

Combine the huge numbers who do self-disembark with a complete refusal to follow/enforce procedures, and you have chaos. I just don't understand why RCI, who I think is "best in the business" at crowd control and dispersing people can't get this Galveston disembarking problem figured out.

I agree Cindy. They were not enforcing anything. Just shrugging and saying sorry. Then their response is to block elevators, which just starts angering people.

This is a problem wherever people need to queue up....airlines won't enforce it either.

Sometimes I like the European model of "free for all" and push and shove your way in. I witnessed this in an airport in Spain....drove me nuts until I decided to embrace their culture lol Rome was the same way with buses/metro and even some restaurants.

Oh boy, sounds like a mess. Hope it's not like that when I am trying to disembark!

You're making good time. Glad the rain is moving through; ready for some sunshine. Those that are embarking today will appreciate it. Although I went outside a few minutes ago and it' rather cool.

It sounds like it was a combination of fog and self assist that did us in.

When I was on the Triumph last month we didn't dock until 2, and didn't start debark until almost 4. After the cruise director called for the people with flight issues and the dock 1 self assists to go, she came back on and before she called for deck two self assists, she announced that 700 people apparently lived on deck one and had flights to catch, and to please honor the debark procedure. Therein lies the biggest problem when the passengers don't follow the rules.

My daughter that was on NOS this morning said they were assigned to a room to go to and wait to be called, but it was full so they were told to wait in a line outside the room, then people started cutting in line. A RCI crew member did make them go to the back of the line when they caught them.

It won't be an issue. I'm counting on today being the last day for fog. It's getting warmer, so is the water. We board 3/30 and it would be nice for all involved that this fog disappear!

Border granny - I absolutely agree. We were following the rules by waiting for announcements. Then I saw people walking off so we hauled butt downstairs and encountered the mess.

We had letter B for self assist and I'm guessing a whole lot of people didn't have anything.

I really wish people would just follow the rules and be paitient. If everyone would just do that things would go smoothly.

Just curious but if you don't do self assist, how long will it take to see your luggage on the other side? We sail next week and have a tight return flight out of Hobby. I don't know that we would have made it back for a 12:30pm flight today? Thoughts on the best way to do that if we have a fog delay?

Depends what number luggage tag you have. The earliest luggage tag numbers are normally scheduled to get off the ship 30 - 45 minutes after self-assist starts. If you have an early flight, I'd go to Guest Services early in the cruise and ask for the lowest luggage tag numbers you can get.
