lovefamilytime Posted December 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2014 We are taking a family trip on Oasis March 21-28. We are scheduled to have a Dynamic Dining. We haven't cruised in 5 years, and are quite confused about the dining options. I have the task of planning the meals for all 7 of our family members to eat together every day. Please explain our options or give suggestions of both free and fee dining options and what exactly Dynamic dining means? Thanks for any help or guidance! According to Royal's website, Dynamic Dining is being delayed on Oasis until "later in the year". No specific date has been given. So it appears that you will have a choice of traditional or My Time Dining for your March cruise. Royal has also not given any indication as to when we will be able to re-select our dining. All I can suggest is to keep calling them periodically. Edited December 27, 2014 by clarea

lovefamilytime Posted December 27, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted December 27, 2014 If that is the case, and dynamic dining is delayed- can you tell me the benefits of my time dining vs traditional? And can we still make reservations at other restaurants? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
cruisenfever Posted December 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2014 If that is the case, and dynamic dining is delayed- can you tell me the benefits of my time dining vs traditional? And can we still make reservations at other restaurants? Sent from my iPhone using Forums With Traditional Dining you have 2 "set" times to chose from early or late. Depending on the ship early could begin at 5:30 and late could begin at 8:00. Gratuities will automatically be added to your on board account on a daily basis. You will sit at the same table each night and have the same wait staff. With MTD, you can select a time prior to boarding by going to your Cruise Planner or wait until you are on board. You will eat at a different table each night and have different wait staff. If you eat at the same time each night, you can request the same table and wait staff. Gratuities must be prepaid and will be included in your final payment. You can still make reservations at any of the other restaurants on board with any dining arrangement. lovefamilytime Posted December 27, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted December 27, 2014 Thank you so much for the great explanation! It appears that reservations cannot be made yet for our March cruise. Any idea when those usually open up? Sent from my iPad using Forums

Some have said that they open up 90 days prior to sailing.
HiCSailor Posted December 27, 2014 #8 Share Posted December 27, 2014 The plus of my time dining is that you are not locked into an early or late seating in the main dining room each night, but can choose what time you want to sup each night during the open hours of the MDR. My family did MTD our first cruise, and we loved the flexibility (especially with kids) to work dinner around the day's activities instead of the other way around. My Time considerations include: - you will not have the same table mates each night. - you may not have the same weight staff each night ( with reservations, my family has the same waitstaff throughout our cruise) - reservations are recommended each night, which can be done at once and changed as needed (alternatively you can just show up, but may wait a bit for a table) - Entertainment is sequenced with the traditional meal times, so your dinner timing can't deviate too much if you plan to enjoy the nightly productions. - Royal limits the number of passengers doing each option, so you may not have a choice between MTD and traditional, but you can be waitlisted for your preference. Hope that helps a bit.
Rare Lionesss Posted December 27, 2014 #9 Share Posted December 27, 2014 Being tradionalist we have enjoyed the typical scheduled MDR experience with the same assigned table mates and wait staff. It has always been something we looked forward to on all our cruises. Only once in our previous 7 cruises were we linked to "Unique" family (mother), but once we checked and talked to the Maitre'D, they were moved to another table and a new family joined us. We never knew how it worked, but we were lucky to keep the original table and have a great balcony view. Who knows, maybe they did not like us and requested a new table also......... Whatever the new family were very nice and we still keep in contact with them after 5 years.
