HELP! We leave on the Celebrity Summit on July 26th. We just were notified from the excursion that everything is sold out, due too the cup match which is Bermuda's largest holiday.

Please tell me this won't efffect our 3 days there? Is there any precautions we should take?

Cup Match will be on Thursday and Friday July 30 and 31. This is a major holiday. Public transportation will be on a reduced holiday schedule, many businesses closed, and it's a holiday where a lot of Bermudians visit and even camp out on the beaches.

These are two of the days we are in port. I'm afraid we won't be able to fin any beaches open, get transportation or be able to anywhere. Our one excursion was just cancelled b/c of this.

If everything slows down or shuts down,, how does the island handle all the cruise ship passengers?

There will be transportation... on a reduced holiday schedule.

Beaches will be open, but expect bigger than normal crowds due to the holiday. If you want to go to Horseshoe Bay and not be concerned about the reduced bus schedule you can take the privately-operated shuttles that run between Royal Naval Dockyard, where your ship will be berthed, and Horseshoe Bay. The shuttle costs $16 per person round trip.

There will be ferries into Hamilton, just on a somewhat reduced schedule...but expect most stores in Hamilton to be closed.

I have the feeling they'll also operate the Orange Route ferry from Dockyard to St. George's, but they won't announce the holiday transportation schedules until a few days before the holiday.

Since there are ships at the Dockyard most of the stores there should be open. The National Museum of Bermuda (Bermuda Maritime Museum), which is at the Dockyard, should be open.

  • 2 weeks later...

We were there for Cup match 2 years ago had no problem going to snorkel beach, horseshoe beach, dockyard shops, the aquarium & caves and a nightime bermuda triangle cruise, and found ferries and buses to take us to the aquarium/caves (did not book excursions on ship, did on our own)....the one bar we did want to go to (Swizzle inn) was closed and Hamilton was dead but it did not affect us having fun the rest of the time. Going again in 3 weeks and hope to hit Hamilton and St George's more this time.

I just read in the Bermuda paper on line that most of the stores and restaurants in St. George plan to stay open Thursday and Friday.

Cup Match is being contested in St. George's this year, so there will be large crowds in the area...making it very worthwhile for restaurants and stores to stay open.
