Royal Caribbean -casinos opened or closed while in Bermuda

I've read both answers. Some say the ships casino opens at 9pm when in Bermuda and those that say it's closed. I just booked a cruise and the RCI rep told me the casino would be closed but they often have outdated information.

I'm looking for a definitive answer from someone who's been on a Royal Caribbean ship docked in Bermuda. Thanks.

The answer could vary by ship. Royal Caribbean could have paid for a license for one ship, but not for another, and that could be the source of the apparently conflicting answers.

I's suggest you post your question on the Royal Caribbean board and identify which ship you're on.

Open 9pm to 5am while docked.

Unless you know that's true for every Royal Caribbean ship (and I see in your signature block you haven't cruised on Royal Caribbean) you can't say that.

The casino will be open on your Breakaway cruise.

There were reports of the casino being closed on some Royal Caribbean cruises last year.

If you look in the Anthem of the Seas section there was a guy who posted all the cruise compasses from the April 30th cruise and it did in fact show as open in the evening while in dock. I have no idea about other ships though.

Below is a link and a copy of the Compasses for Anthem's 5 night Bermuda sailing on 4/30/16 and it did indicate the casino opened at 9 pm when they docked overnight in Bermuda.

We were on Anthem's 7 night sailing 5-14-16, Bermuda to Boston and indeed the casino opened at 9 pm when we were docked overnight in Bermuda and the casino was packed.

For many years the casino was not opened when RCI sailed out of Bayonne to Bermuda and docked overnight. RCI made an exception a few years ago on one of their 5 night Bermuda sailings, which we were on, Explorer of the Seas and opened their casino at 9 pm. After that sailing, casino stayed closed on their 5 night Bermuda sailings.

I guess they are testing the waters again to see if it's worth RCI's time and money by having the casino open when docked overnight in Bermuda.

The issue is that it is only relatively recent (past few years) that Bermuda has allowed the casinos to open.

This was due to a lot of the cruise lines threatening to stop calling there for multiple days due to the closed casino/lack of revenue.

In order for the casino to open, each ship has to pay for a license. So, for the ships that are doing regular runs to Bermuda, it is probably safe to assume that they will pay for the license to open. For the ships that are only doing one or two stops, it might not be worth it to them for open.

So, to answer your question, is your ship doing regular Bermuda sailings? If so, the odds are good the casino will be open. Is it a one off trip? In that case, it might not be.

Also, notice I did say the license is per ship, not per line. There are comments saying that Anthem has the casino open. If you are not sailing on the Anthem, but on another RCI ship, the fact that the Anthem has their casino open means nothing.

The person asking the question is on Grandeur of the Seas. Not Anthem. The answer about Anthem does not apply to the OP. Grandeur is doing regular sailings out of Baltimore. As you say the odds are Royal would get the license but I agree with you and others that it should not be assumed. The RCI rep said not. So until someone confirms it is open or not open the answer is still up in the air.
