Uber/Halo in Ireland

Recommended Posts

Just got back from Paris and used Uber quite a bit! Loved it!

I was wondering if Halo is Ireland's Uber?

If it is....has anyone used it in Cobh Ireland?

And if so... what was your experience? Thanks!

We have a trip to Ireland later this year. Halo does appear to be an option in some of the smaller towns. But I have not used it.

Uber is non existant in Ireland. Taxis must be licensed.

Hailo app would work in Cobh, but it only shows you the current location and availability of taxis, which you can order. If you are on a ship in Cobh, the taxis will be at the ship, at the base of the gangway.

I have just looked at the hailo app, (6.30 pm Irish time) and it is showing no taxis in the Cogh area, but plenty in the general Cork area. When the ship docks, that all changes.

Hailo is now showing me 18 minutes wait for a taxi pick up in cobh!

(But I bet there is at least one taxi sitting in the square in Cobh, that is not a Hailo user).

Thanks so much for the info. Are the prices the same for taxis and hailo?

Yes, the prices are the same. There is an official meter rate and meter should be used. If you were going a long distance or using taxi for a long time you could negotiate an agreeable rate (off the meter) ;)

Uber operates in Dublin, which the last time I checked was in Ireland.

In Ireland and the UK Uber drivers are simply licenced minicab drivers who have signed up to Uber.

Totally irrelevant to the OP however, although the Uber app will work in Dublin, there are no shared rides or private drivers, which is the original Uber principle. They are registered taxis using Uber as a calling app.

There is no such thing as a minicab in Ireland. Only Taxis and Hackney cabs.
