Smoking - Not Sure What to Expect

RCI's Mariner of the Seas has a China/Japan/South Korea cruise soon which is good for me. The most important consideration is.... drum roll...

Smoking.

I DON'T want to be stuck anywhere indoors really where I have to passively smoke. As an Australian I have become used to being able to relax in restaurants and most parts of most bars with no smoking. In Australia.

Since the cruise operates out of China I am guessing that 80% or more of pax are Asian and I know from living / working throughout Asia that smoking is a very big part of the local cultures.

I am assuming that RCI accommodate this by relaxing the no smoking policy?

So... am I able to drink in bars and eat in the restaurants of Mariner on an Asian cruise? free of smoke?

(It is safe to assume that the casino will be a no go area for me)

Chris, another member posted this on your original post on the main RC page

Here is the official policy, with some specific wording regarding Asian sailings.

It looks like the only real difference is that the Casino may not have a non-smoking section (as if that makes a big difference). The restaurants will definitely be non-smoking, as well as the bars outside of the Casino. The Connoisseur Club on deck five also allows smoking but can easily be avoided.

Thanks for that. As it happens, I am trying to "work through" this sudden announcement with management that I am going on holidays in seven days time.

If not then, I think the Mariner of the Seas will be a goer. Yeah, some bad reports here and there but I'm always up for an adventure :)

Chris, I've been researching this since we will also be cruising on Mariner and I've found out (as I have noticed in the past on Mariner) that the smoking will only be in the casino but that it 'escapes' up the casino stairs into the Royal Promenade area. I plan on just avoiding this area as much as possible.

I've also purchased some really good face masks to use in China for the few days before be board to try to cut back on the passive smoking, which I won't hesitate to use onboard if I need to since the smoke makes me really sick :)

We did the Mariner in March 2015...Singapore-Shanghai...and yes lots of smoking in the casino and it did drift up into the Promenade at times. We also spent almost a week post-cruise in Shanghai and actually had no problem but then it sounds like you are much more affected by it than me...Enjoy the Mariner...we did...regardless of a few things...which we expected as we've done land trips in China before.
