Lucy & Ethel in the Casino in Monte Carlo, and she WON, and

was afraid Ricky would be mad that she played there.....

This is all I know about the Casino in Monte Carlo.:p

Is there only One? What do we need to know about it?

We will be on NCL Spirit when she visits Monaco early April 2017.

Can anyone recommend the must sees there, like what about the Casino?

Do we need to take a Tour? Walk there ourselves? Dress a certain way?

Any tips for us Lucy & Ethel knockoffs, would be appreciated. :D

We docked in Villefranche so we took the train to Monte Carlo. We walked to the Palace and saw where Grace Kelly was buried along with the king. Then hopped a local bus to Nice and walked around. Then grabbed another local bus to Villefranche to catch the ship.

There is more than one Casino (four of which I am aware) but the one that I think you are referencing is the Casino de Monte-Carlo (most grand of the four casinos, located along the Eastern side of Place Du Casino. Featured in several James Bond films &, I believe, Oceans Eleven). You can find information (including dress code) regarding the Casino de Monte-Carlo here:

http://www.casinomontecarlo.com/casinos-2/casino-monte-carlo-2/about-casino/

some other places to visit if you have an interest:

Prince's Palace (changing of guard 11:55 am & tour of state apartments)

Monaco Cathedral (Princess Grace is buried here)

Larvotto beach

Thanks alot. Checked out the 360 Virtual tour, and its gorgeous!

Wondering where ship docks, how far is it to get there, and How did you get there? Take a tour with the ship?

How dressy did you need to be?

Seems (most of the casinos) Opens 2pm, not sure we have enough time to even Visit that area?

Is there Entry fee for ALL the casinos? Or can we just go LOOK?

For those that went to Casino area, were you able to see much??

There aren't any fees to enter the casinos (to play or to look) and for the Casino de Monte Carlo (the one that is the most formal) I'd say you don't quite need to be dressed like James Bond but probably not too casual either - think dressy casual at a minimum to fit in if you plan to spend time walking around the gaming floor. or playing. By the way, it feels like a museum - quiet and serene and beautiful - never even felt like I was in a casino....until a gentleman protested on the roulette tables. Then one realized that indeed, it was in fact a place where money was on the table. (The gentleman was not successful in waging his protest and thus, lost his wager ;) )

Here is information about the casinos for you from the official tourism website of Monaco, already opened to the casinos page.

Enjoy your port visit in Monte Carlo :)

Thanks Colleen, and everybody, for the info so far.

I guess I'm waiting to hear how much TIME is needed for this?

Since they seem to OPEN AT 2PM, is it enough time??

Also, were Not familiar with the Port were at, and how Long it takes to get to

the Casino area......?

Did you take a Tour Pkg. from ship? Or whats best way to get there & back.

Thanks again.

It would be a waste to take a tour package for this port if you are going to stay in MC. Given your interests, go up to old town, check that out, see a guard changing, have lunch, then make your way to the casino. Google Tom's port guides for Monte Carlo. He has all the maps and info on elevators, if you don't like steps...the town is on a hill. If you have time, visit some of the gardens...they are lovely. If you don't mind paying for the an expensive drink, have one outside at the cafe de Paris in front of the Casino and watch the wealth arrive in the circle in front of the Casino. Fun for people watching. The town is very walkable, for the able bodied who love to walk and don't mind steps.

I agree with Buggins - a tour package purchased from your ship would probably be expensive and a waste of money. Monaco is very easy to DIY and you can very easily get around on your own for a fraction of the cost of a cruise tour. From where your ship will dock/tender (Hercules Port) it is a 20 minute stroll to the Casino. If you don't want to walk to the casino, bus #1 will get you there. You just need to do a little research and it will be a snap. :)

In addition to the port guide mentioned previously, the following are links to info on Monaco:

Monaco Cruise Port Guide: http://cruiseportwiki.com/Monaco

There aren't any fees to enter the casinos (to play or to look)

To be precise, there are not any fees to enter the slot machine atrium but there is a €10 fee to enter the gaming area.
