Internal flights in India

Can anyone recommend an airline for internal flights in India? I've been reading reviews/maintenance/ and looking at pictures and it's hard to say that one is better than another. I'm kind of a nervous flyer that loves to travel...... I'd welcome any thoughts and/or opinions on the subject.

I accompanied DH on a business trip to India three years ago. Internally we flew with Jet Airways - four flights although one sector was operated by Sahara Airlines. All the flights were OK and reasonably comfortable. I'd be happy to fly with those airlines again.

Be aware that the luggage allowance for internal flights in India is only 15kgs (33 lbs) which is significantly less than international allowances. We soon learnt to put all our heavy stuff in our carry-ons. ;)

We travelled on IndiGo airlines 11 months ago and would recommend that airline.

I've also travelled quite a bit with Indigo and found them pretty good. It's worth the trivial extra cost to get "fast forward" which gives you various privileges like express checkin.

Many Indian airports have been rebuilt recently and the whole experience is somewhat like flying in a Western country, but if you visit one of the old airports (Bagdogra comes to mind), you'll get the traditional India experience.

Just booked a land tour with India and Nepal and the TA recommends Buddha airways as well
