If you could name the best excursion/ sight seeing place that you would recommend to someone going to Maui, what would it be?

What about restaurants that you highly recommend?

It would be cool to see a list of maybe some hidden treasures.

As to restaurants, that depends on what part of Maui you are going to, what your food preferences are...budget...

Go to Trip Advisor, sister site to Cruise Critic, and find lists of Top Things to Do in Maui, ranked, rated and reviewed by fellow visitors. That will give you an idea of what is possible, and from that you can pick what interests you. You can find reviews for particular excursions you come across. You can also find the same info for Restaurants, listed by particular areas of the island.

I will say that for most things you'll want to see in Maui, a tour is not needed. If you have a rental car, it's a very straightforward scenic 'drive up' experience, and see and do as many things as you like coming and going for way less than a tour. Some things, like whale watches, snorkeling, etc, may need a tour, but even then, your own rental car will simplify how you get to the tour from the

ship.

If you want to go all out on a Maui restaurant, I recommend Mamas Fish House near the start of the Road to Hana near Pa'ia. It is on top ten lists, and not just for Hawaii. Beachfront, casual elegant Hawaiian ambiance, pretty expensive but well worth it for a special occassion. Reservations a must. Another "dinner" option would be to end your day in Lahaina, ( you can shop, beach, get snorkel and whale watch excursions here too, ) and then go to the Old Lahaina Luau, very highly rated.

A second for Mamas Fish House... excellent food and ambience...

I also agree with the idea of reviewing Trip Advisor to seek out the things that interest you. Enjoy the Valley Isle!

Mamas is great, but until we know where the OP is going to be on Maui, hard to give any answers. If the OP is coming ashore at Lahaina, Mamas is a long way to go for lunch, unless they happen to go to that side of the island.

Definitely get a guidebook. There are a zillion things to see and do...and yes...a rental car is the way to do it! Driving is pretty easy...well-marked roads.

But, do your research and figure out WHAT most interests you! Then, we can help with the HOW to do it! We spent 10 days on Maui and still didn't see everything!

We love Maui and when we have been there for a few days we always use one long day to rent a car and see the "Road to Hana" which is amazing. So maybe think about a van or coach tour that way you leave the driving to them and the sightseeing to you!

We also had an amazing time whale watching from Kaanapali Beach - in front of the Westin Maui - with "Gemini Whale Watching" that was awesome. This next time we are taking the whale watching tour thru "Trilogy Tours" that meets up and takes off directly from Lahaina pier :-)

Depending on the time of year and your own interest will guide you. We spent five days last summer and are going back for two weeks. Road to Hana ok some yahoos driving that spoil it and rain had us turn back at half way point.

Mamas is outstanding as well any trip out on water I would highly recommend Trilogy safety is first with them. We did a snorkel trip with them. Did not make it up the volcano as it was clouded most days.
