Default Port or Starboard in Sydney

Hi Everyone,

Do we need a cabin on the port or starboard side, to see the Opera House in Circular Quay.

We have booked on The Rhapsody of the Seas not until Jan 2011, so plenty of time to change cabins.

Depends on how your ship docks.

Many head in to the Quay - that is, the bow points toward the city skyline. In that case, a port cabin would view the Opera House.

Occasionally, some captains seem to favor turning the ship around, backing in, and then are prepared to sail directly into the Outer Harbor on departure.

Wish I could be of more help.....

I'd agree. Better chance is port, but no guarantees.

You are very close though so if you still need to go on deck it will be easily seen - and placed for good pictures :-)

Default port or starboard sydney

Hi All

Thanks for your replies, we are booked for port and will keep our fingers crossed. We were in Sydney last year (not on a cruise) when the Queen Victoria and Elizabeth were in, and experienced the celebrations in the harbour. The Diamond Princess was also docked, whilst we were there, all facing forward, so we have more than a 50-50 chance.

We went through Bexley, Sydney in a taxi, a suberb, much like Bexley, England is a suberb of London.

Thanks everyone

Be on deck then you won't miss anything. The Bridge comes really fast and then the Opera House is right there! No time to be trying to get out of your room to another location.

I don't know what time you are supposed to be arriving in Sydney, but we were disappointed in February, when arriving on the Diamond Princess. Even though we had a port side balcony, we had gone up on deck for a better view, it was still dark and the Opera House and Bridge were not lit up, unfortunately.

Default Starboard!!!!

Coming in Port side will be to the Opera house, but hey it will be early, early morning, Going out the Opera house will be on the Starboard side either because the ship is at Circular Quay international and pointed out, or if pointed in-so the port people seem to be right, it will back up and turn so that starboard is to the opera house (and the bridge above you) the absolute best view of the Opera House will be after the ship is headed for the Ocean so book Starboard. (If you are ported in Darling Harbour there is no question, port side will get a great shot of Luna Park, Starboard will get the Opera House.

Personally I think Luna Park at night is one of Sydney's unheralded great views, but I doubt if it is what people dream of.

All that said be on deck it is fun. And Sydney harbor has more to offer than just the Opera House, so be on deck and enjoy.

Agree that on deck is best. We were fortunate - had an aft cabin and when docked (aft out) could view both the bridge and the Opera House and Luna Park - lovely. No matter what, it's an amazing place to be docked. Enjoy!
