Default Are there any beach bars in Isla Verde open to public?

Since we have already walked all around OSJ & visited one of the forts on our last cruise, this time I am checking into possibly going over to Isla Verde. We are in port from 5pm to midnight on a Monday . First, I was thinking we could stop at the rooftop Wet Bar at the Water & Beach Club, mainly to see the view. After that, I was wondering if we can walk along the beach and find a little beach bar, at a hotel maybe??

I stayed there is February and enjoyed a couple of drinks at the beach bar - you can also order food.

I would go to the Condado area anytime before Isla Verde (and it's a closer cab ride from OSJ). At least beside hotels on the beach, there are many outdoor cafes on Ashford Avenue, the main drag. IMO, I'd skip Isla Verde, too isolated.

Thanks, you two! Not really looking for sidewalk cafes, but will check out Condado. Would there be any beach bars there where we could put our toes in the sand?

I don't know for a FACT, but the Condado covers a much bigger area and the options should be much greater. Go to www.tripadvisor.com and that should answer many questions. Good luck.

There is a beach bar in Isla Verde, sorry can't remember the name of it. I believe it is around the El San Juan Resort. We ate and had a few drinks in May of 08 when we returned from our cruise and extened our stay for a day. Prices weren't too bad either if memory serves correctly.

So, maybe if we just walk along the beach in Isla Verde we will run into a few beach bars, or as it sounds it will mostly likely be hotels with bars on the beach! I've not had much luck on Tripadvisor, but have found out about a couple places so that should do us for a few hours. Thanks, everyone!

since in Puerto Rico it is allowed to bring your own cooler and drink on the beach, beach bars on the beach are few and far between in the coast of san juan which is a tourist but also a heavy residential area were you have hotels next to condominiums (not so in other regions of the island were beach bars are more frequent and are not located in residential areas, i can think of Rincón and Cabo Rojo), puerto ricans bring their cooler filled with the things they are going to consume.

There is one at the Intercontinental in Isla Verde. It is next door to ESJ, but I don't know if it is open to the public.

I have been there- I found it more of a restaurant, but with an full bar.
Open to the public.
As far as I know, all the restaurant and bars in all the hotels are open to the public.

So it's sounding like Intercontinental is a definite "stop by!" Maybe a walk down the beach from there will bring a surprise or two.

I love that hotel. That is where we usually stay before or after our cruises leaving from San Juan.

Default Water Club to Intercontinental

Twice post cruise, we had a day room at the Water Club. After a nice relaxing lounge on their beach ( public beach but chairs/umbrellas available), we spent some time up in the roof bar enjoying the fabulous views on the white leather loungers/sofas. We have walked the short distance down the beach and had lunch at the Intercontinental where drinks are also served . Both are open to the public. Drinks were a little pricey at the Water Club but you really cannot beat the view and "south beach" experience.

This area seems to get alot of bad press. I have to say we have always had a late flight and only spent daylight hours there but it seemed safe enough. It is a nice beach area and a lovely place to just walk along the shore. I remember walking down past the Intercontinental and another Bar/ Restaurant is located by the point along Isla Verde.

If it's a beautiful sunny day, i cannot imagine you'd find a better spot to enjoy the views .

I have not been to PR in a few years, but I used
to go to a place named the Blue Dolphin at the end of
Amapola St in eyeshot of the ESJ.
It's down near the Ritz Carlton.
It's attached to the Empress Hotel along with
a restaurant named Sonnys. Right on the water
and the prices were good at the time. Dont know
if it's still there. Maybe the locals posting here
can verify it.

Also, while not on the beach, there was a place
named Lupis on Isla Verde Ave near the ESJ.
A lively place with outdoor seating.
