Default Avalon Tranquility October 2009

My son & I will be joining Avalon 12 day tour from Paris to Prague from 16 Oct to 27Oct 2009. This includes two nights in Paris and two nights Prague
and eight days on the Riverboat Tranquility on the Moselle and Rhine. Can someone please advise us of the dress code for evening Dinner as this is our first Riverboat cruise.
I travelled with my husband on many cruises he wore a jacket for dinner apart from formal nights when he wore a Dinner suit - hopefully a dinner suit is not required on a Riverboat cruise?

perhaps this thread might help somewhat although it's directed at concerts on land... (because the info we've found suggests that jackets are not required on Avalon cruises)

Also, as a fan of Avalon Waterways on facebook, Jay Parker of Avalon states: "What a great way to explore Europe! Unpack once, many included excursions (you don't find that on ocean cruises) and wine at dinner, nice! Don't fear a dress code! Smart casual is the order of the day, and night. Comfortable walking shoes is the only true requirement...the sun deck is open most of the time, except when passing under low bridges! You must go!"

hope this helps!

ok, just found this link on Avalon's web site (a tad buried but there just the same) - it should answer your question for sure (but open to some interpretation... mine is that we are NOT packing a sports jacket for DH):

Clothing
Dress aboard and on shore is casual. Please bring comfortable walking shoes for sightseeing. Dinner attire is casual—open-neck shirts, slacks, dresses. Coats and ties may be worn. The Captain’s Welcome and Farewell Dinners are dressy, but not formal.

Default Avalon Tranquility

We will be on the Tranquility Sept 10-28 Black Danube Cruise. We received our documents this week and have some reading to do. We wondered about taking a sports jacket for my husband but after reading numerous threads, have decided to leave the jacket and fancy duds at home.

Enjoy your trip!
