Talking Princess Grill GTY on Queen Victoria

Ever since our first cruise on the QM2 last year, DH and I have been looking forward to returning to Cunard, and I think we are about to book a segment (or two) of the world cruise on Queen Victoria.

We are planning to do one segment in the princess grill class and are undecided about the other segment (will it happen? will it be britannia balcony or princess grill? etc). After careful analysis of the deck plans, we believe we would be happy in every Princess Grill room except the 2 very far forward on deck 5. We prefer strongly prefer avoiding the extreme ends of any cruise ship. I am hoping some people around here can advise me a) when I can expect the cabin to be assigned (for a march/april 2010 cruise) and b) what the chances are that I am going to be put in the 5001 or 5002 cabin. I am hopeful that people would specifically select those larger cabins, so it will be less likely we are assigned at random.

I know there is no science, but I would appreciate all educated guesses.
Oh! I would also appreciate hearing if there are any inferior PG rooms.

I would guess the chances are very small - smaller than direct probability (two in sixty one) - or less than 3% - someone (or several people) will want those P1s - and since all the other Princess Grill cabins are similarly located (midships) you'll find they all have a steady ride - better than the QG suites at the stern, for example - as I found on this year's Winter Crossing - PG is lovely - you'll have a blast!

Thanks Peter. We absolutely fell in love with PG on our first Cunard cruise to the caribbean about 16 months ago. We still discuss how Dominick (our head waiter from Goa) was the best waiter we have ever had in 100s of dinners in Michelin starred restaurants and their ilk. I think we would cruise Cunard PG exclusively if it wasn't so difficult to coordinate our schedules with the few times a year that the Queens sail to more exotic ports.

I am a bit confused as to whether or not you think other people won't want the far forward P1 cabins (in which case we are in greater danger of being assigned to them).

I think people will want those cabins - they are P1, overlook the bow & if you were assigned them (v unlikely) you could volunteer to 'downgrade' to a P2.....

Just returned from QV Geysers & Glaciers voyage on 7/20, where I was upgraded to a P1 cabin. Since it was an upgrade, I was happy with whatever I got, but if you're paying....I would suggest staying away from cabin # 8083 (or it's equivalent on the other side and decks). Midships location, but the door is exactly across from the door to the internal stairway that's used by the crew for luggage delivery/collection, crew drills, and general crew traffic, which ended up being noisy, esp in the morning. (Mostly crew calling to each other within the stairway area, but since it's all metal and empty, the sounds echo loudly; plus thumps of luggage transfer process.)

P.S. Loved the PG - after 16 Cunard trips this was my first grills experience so I'm comfortable saying it's a whole different world up there! The restaurant (food and service) was so much higher quality than Britannia and the Grills Terrace was a delight! Unfortunately, I won't be able to afford to pay the 200% rate myself, so have to hope for another upgrade at some point1

We've just been upgraded from a P4 to 5001, P1 on QV & we're really looking forward (no pun intended!) to it as it & 5002 are much bigger than other PG cabins. It's only a 3-nighter so I don't expect it will be too rocky, unfortunately

The QG cabin at the stern were rocky Peter, I'm still vibrating!! lol
