Default Check your hotel rates!

I've given up on a price drop for my cruise. I booked ES, and the price has gone up, up and away! My flights, well, there's nothing you can really do about those stupid things. I did the best I could. However, the one thing I never thought to check before was my hotel rates. A friend just mentioned how she rechecked her rates about a week before she went on her trip and the rates had gone down. She called and was able to get her rate lowered! Well, I decided to check on-line, and found the rate on my room has lowered by $35! And when I called, they gave me the new rate, no questions asked! With taxes, we are saving $38.43. That's enough to make me happy, and just about pay for a cheapo dinner that night! Woo Hoo! So remember to check your hotel rates too!

Good information!! We frequently see hotel prices drop and take advantage of this. However, I have seen many hotels now offering a lower price for pre-paying your room with the understanding that you are locking in the price and reservation. So maybe they are getting wise to people like us.

Also, rental car reservations should also be checked as prices often go down.

May I ask which port and hotel you are in? We paid $84 for Intercontinental in Miami for 10/24 and 11/1. If you have a better deal, I would love to hear it

Thanks!

We are leaving out of FLL, so may not be a big help. We booked the Econolodge, dumpy place but who cares. $61 with taxes, includes shuttle service and continental breakfast. Honestly, I'd sleep in the bus station to make sure I got to the port on time. We had a horrible experience last year when our Saturday night flight got cancelled, then our Sunday flight was delayed, twice! We landed in FLL at 1300 hrs to leave from Miami! It was awful! This time we booked a wicked early flight out, so there are a few more chances to grab another if something happens. The check in at this hotel is 1400 hrs, so it means we can check in almost 2 hours earlier than most other places! Works for me! Good luck, you leave the day after us!

We did the same thing after having booked a suite with parking near Detroit airport for $109, it's now $89 including parking. Airport parking is $15/day so it's a no brainer.

How late did you have to book to get the Intercontinental that cheap. I paid 190 last year November 15th thru priceline but I did it very early took me a few bids to get it at that.

Thanks, John

How do you get the shuttle when you don't book the cruise package? We just booked at the Hilton Garden Inn in Jax & I called several places & they charge $40 for the shuttle if you book the cheaper rates.

Good advice. By the way, I would have known you were from New England by that "wicked early flight" comment!

Thank you amcjeep, I saw your thread and I checked our hotel rate we were booked at the LQ Miami airport east for 71.80 a night and it dropped to 58.50 for 9/20. I called and they lowered the price for the entire group booking!!! We can park there for free and they shuttle you to the port. We have one driver who has a handicap sticker and will park at the port free. Drivers will disembark early and go back adn get the cars and pick us all up.

So we saved enough for a DOD and a refill!!!

Thanks again for the great advice!

How did you bid specifically for the Hilton? I didn't think you could specify with priceline, but would love to know how.
