Default Long wait, but finally multi-category upgrade from our guarantee

We're sailing this Monday on the Noordam, Eastern Mediterranean from Rome. Others on our roll call with guarantees have been getting cabin assignments since Friday last week. As of yesterday, Thursday, we still had no cabin assigned to us. I was beginning to think we would not know where we would be until we boarded. But, today our cabin assignment came through. We went from a mm inside guarantee to a gg obstructed view midship.

Wow! Nice upgrade. You'll be much happier in this cabin. Not only is there light---there's room!
Have a wonderful time on the Noordam.

I'm not sure light is a good thing. We have always had inside cabins in the past. My wife likes the fact that they are so dark. She feels that will help her sleep at night.

I'm looking at the deck plans for the Noordam in the Holland America 2009 European catalogue. Am I reading it correctly that in gg we will get a bathtub as well as a shower?

Bring clothespins or chip-bag clips to keep the drapes tightly closed and you'll be fine, as the drapes are quite thick.

It's not exactly "as well as" a shower - you will get a tub, and the shower head is on the wall at the end.

I understand---I'm a cave-dweller myself. If I have an outside cabin (rare occurrence), I overlap the draperies closed, then prop something against them.
