Default Dream transatlantic Question....

Booked on the 10/27 transatlantic sailing.....
Booked it all thru the carnival program that includes flights and transfers, etc.

Got flight info yesterday....

Tampa to JFK (NY) via American Airlines
JFK to Rome, Fiumicino via American Airlines.

Then take the ship back to the US and into NY.

Lga (NY) to Tampa via Delta airlines

Here is my question....
American Airlines luggage is 2 bags per person for international, up to 50 lbs each.

Delta is 40 lbs per bag, and you pay for the bags too ($80).
However if you have "arrived" internationally, your bags can be up to 50 lbs.

SO, what is my weight limit?

I called and got one answer (50 lbs each)
DH called and got a different answer (40 lbs each)
Travel agent called and they told her Delta had a baggage agreement with American and 50 lbs and no charge.

I just need to know how to pack.
Thanks for any ideas.

I don't know about the charges and everything and what you can bring, but I just checked the Delta website and your checked back can be up to 50 lbs. 40 lbs is the maximum weight your carry on bag can be. One Delta it is $15 for the 1st bag and $25 for the 2nd bag.

I saw that as well, but the rep says 40 lbs and the paperwork also says 40 lbs.

On multi-line airlines, it's usually the line you start each direction with. This means that on the way there, you are subject to AA's rules and on the way home, you are subject to Delta's. Yes, they are different rules but that's the way the airlines approach it.

I think you probably have 2 one way tickets and the luggage policy of each airline rules. The Atlantic is usually too big of a gap for most open jaw tickets.

But 50 pounds is the limit for checked luggage, not 40 pounds as mentioned. 40 pounds is the limit a bag that you carry onto the plane.

Pond scum Delta does charge an extra $5 per suitcase if you don't check you bags in online.

Maybe ask your TA to arrange a conference call with you and Delta?

I'd also print the baggage info off of Delta's website and educate anyone at the airport who thinks otherwise.

If you are flying from LGA to Tampa domestic rules are in place 50 pounds 2 bags the first at 15second at 25, The only way you dont pay luggage is if you flew in intenatinally and direct to your home city. Ie: aa to rome from tampa switch planes in nyc leave rome delta or aa to jfk switch planes to tampa no charge for luggage. You are flying one way intenational to rome no charge for bags and 1 way domestic lga to tampa a charge will be incurred.
