Default Gift Exchange??

I have read on a couple of threads where cruisers have exchanged gifts. I am guessing this happens at the Meet and Greet. I am wondering, do you bring gifts for everyone at the Meet and Greet? We have not been on a cruise before and want to do the right thing. Also, what sort of gifts do people exchange? Any help would be appreciated very much. Thanks!

We did a gift exchange with a group from our Roll Call during a cabin crawl a couple of years ago. People brought little trinkets from their home area --- things that were small, easy to pack, and inexpensive. I went to our local dollar store and got some Florida lanyards, one woman had gone to a party store and had bought little pendants on ribbons - they were shaped like sharks & lit up when you pushed a button. There were also small votive candles with a picture of the ship pasted on the package, little bags of candy, trinkets people had brought from work, pens, etc., etc.

On another cruise we brought just a gift for another couple - not for the whole group. I think there was a max of $10 for the gift and I brought some local candy in a small tote bag.

Maybe check with your group and see if they are planning to do a single exchange, or gifts for everyone, and the price range.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Water Baby. This was very helpful.
There has been no mention of gifts yet on my roll call. Do I assume that unless someone does request a gift exchange it wont be happening?
Thanks again.

Kiwis Afloat, in general gifts are not exchanged at these events so if no one mentions it assume there would be no gifts. Sometimes, it just takes one person to organize something like this and that's how it happens but in most cases this does not even come up.

I agree with Keith. I've never heard of gift exchanges on a ship during the meet and greets. If someone on your roll call mentions it, then it's fine. But don't expect to do this.

Kitty and Keith, thanks very much. Very helpful. Since I had read it once or twice I did not want to be caught out by something that "everyone else" knew about but me.
