Question Nuremberg river dock to airport & train station

we are booked on a Uniworld (River Countess) European Holidays cruise from Vienna to Nuremberg in Dec. We will need to get back to LA as soon as the cruise ends. Uniworld provides free r/t airport transfers on sailing dates, but only for flights after 7am. Any other time they will call a cab for you and it is your expense.

My problem:
The 2 flights that we have to choose from leave at either 6:55am (think Uniworld would consider this 7AM??) or 6:30am (I think this one might be pushing it). So I may have to get my own transportation to the airport.
My other option is taking the train from NUE to Frankfurt and picking up a flight there. As I understand it the ICE train takes about 2 hrs and goes right to the Frankfurt airport.

OK, being the budget minded traveler that I am, if I can't use the free transfers from Uniworld I am trying to get an idea how much taxi fares are from the Uniworld River dock in NUE ( I am not sure if all the river cruise companies dock near each other in NUE) to both the airport and the train station. ALso about how long is the travel time to them.

If someone has a suggestion on how they did it that would be helpful.

As Iīve told you in another thread the central station is app. 15 min from the port (all ships are docking in the same area). The airport is at least 30 min from port by car.

There are two flights out of FRA to LAX, one at 10:05 am, the other one at 2:15 pm. So I assume you want to go on the 10:05 am.

Did Uniworld guarantee an arrival time at Nürnberg? Or do you arrive the day before? Otherwise I wonīt go for an early flight out of Nürnberg. If you arrive during the night thereīs always a chance of being delayed by lock traffic. So itīll be very risky to go on such an early flight.

You should be o.k. with a 7 am flight to reach your 10:05 am connection in Frankfurt.

Sorry, I canīt tell you anything about cab prices. Itīs all metered here in Germany.

Steamboats,

Thanks once again for info. We are flying American/British Air. So the flight I have is via Brussels to Chicago to LAX. (this will make it a very long day) The NUE leg leaves NUE at 6:55am arriving in BRU at 8:30am. It was possilble to go from FRA but factoring in the train & taxi fares & having to hassle getting our luggage on and off the train my DH & I decided just to fly. I am pretty sure our 6:55am flight will qualify under Uniworld's 7am guidelines for the free airport transfers.

Yes the ship overnights in NUE. Actually according to the itinerary we are NUE for that full day before so we can do the Chrismas Markets and tour the city, so I am not worried about that part of the trip .

I just got back and our scheduled 6 AM arrival at N'berg didn't arrive until a few minutes after 7 AM. With locks and traffic, river cruises seldom seem to stick to a close schedule. I would not consider such an early departure from N'berg.

missbsmom,

With an overnight stay you should be ok with an early flight.

I looked up the Frankfurt flights. I wouldnīt have come up with the idea to check Brussels!

Steamboats

I didn't come up with the idea, American Airlines did!! My only hesitation is that the plane is small, like 12-14 rows. I prefer the larger ones, especially in winter for a early flight. I will have to just take a Xanax, get on the plane & say a prayer. The flight says Brussels Air but is actually a Lufthansa aircraft ,(yet it's considered part of the "one World" American Airlines program), so I am really not sure who I am checking in with at NUE.

Thanks for all your info....you have no idea how much I appreciate it.

missbsmom,

Itīs a code share. You check in with Lufthansa. For our tomorrowīs flight we do have a Lufthansa flight number but itīs a code share with UA. So we check in with UA.

Steamboats,

I am familar with code shares, but this is written up "strange". When I booked on the AA website it shows for logo for Brussels Air and then states "operated by contract air for Lufthansa" So I guess it will be interesting Brussels Air gives FF points on American, Lufthansa gives them on United . So whose FF number do you think I should give or none at all?

Where are you off to tomorrow? Have a good time where ever you are off to.

That sounded like a long time to get from Nuremberg to Brussels. It must be a small plane!!

I saw today at Munich airport that LH has some contract partners. I assume youīll get the miles on AA / One World.

Weīve just arrived in Orlando.
