Default Carnival Liberty 8-8-09 #4

Today was the stop in Jamaica. We booked an excursion that went to Dunn's River Falls and Dolphin Cove this time around. Dunn's is very close to the port and we were there in no time. The last time we were there, we were able to leave our things on the bus and avoid locker fees. This time, the bus moved on to other things and everything had to be removed. Lockers are $8 with a key return refund of $3 at the end. Because my legs are not the strongest, I didn't feel up to the climb this time so I walked beside the falls holding all the stuff we brought ashore...towels, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc... I had a great time watching the many climbers.

There were some tricky spots on the climb that appreared to be challenging for some. One man had his feet swept out from under him so the people before and behind him helped him up the step. He was probably embarrassed as he was a man in decent shape. He just couldn't get his footing right then. My husband and daughter had a great time without any problems.

When we were here before, the vendors were super agressive and made the experience a bit worse than it should have been. This time, they did try to lead you to their booths but they were not too bad when you indicated that you did not want to buy anything. I did hear of one man on our ship having his wallet stolen in the vendor area so just be aware of your surroundings and your things.

We moved on from the falls to Dolphin Cove. I didn't know what to expect here. It was between the port and the Falls. At this place, there is a beach to swim at, dolphins to watch, sharks and a shark show, snorkeling with stingrays, I think it was an extra $3 each or something low like that. There were also iguanas, food, and shopping. It turned out to be a relaxing experience. We missed the shark show but had fun watching the animals in the water. The beach had chairs to sit on at no charge. If you choose this excursion, be aware that you can choose it with or without chair. To get a "reserved" chair, I was told that the excursion charged about 25. more. I do not know this for a fact so check it out when booking. However, there were no chairs that seemed reserved and we sat whereever we wanted without paying anything extra. This beach was rocky and there was a lot of stuff floating on the water. Nothing bad but it was not clear and beautiful as some are.

When we went to get back on the ship, one of the machines that you put your card into to check back in was not working properly. It slowed the line up a lot. Everyone was supposed to be on board by 4:30 but it was impossible due to the slowdown. I will post a picture of the lines at 4:30.

That being said, there was still some interesting runners to be watched. The pier was very long and therefore, I would not want to have to run it. There was a man and woman who went to get on the ship but then got back off. The man ran up the pier for something. While he was gone, the woman with him (20's or so) waited but appeared to be told to get on or stay on shore with him as they were pulling in the gangways. She seemed unsure of what to do and stayed on shore. He eventually came running back, about 450 PM with a bag in his hand. I don't know if they set it down somewhere and he went to get it or what. Not a chance I would take. But, he was not the only one. We were watching all this from Deck 3 outside and a man came by us and said we were waiting on 2 more people. They appeared right then at the start of the peir. They were running to try to get on the ship. As they got closer, the crowd began to cheer them on and they kept running. They got on board right about 5 PM and the ship immediately sailed.

The show on this night was the "Villiage Idiots". This is a comedy and juggling show. I would not have gone if I had not read good comments about them on this website. I am so glad that I went. The show was fantastic and very funny. DO NOT MISS THIS if you want to laugh.

There was a show in the lobby area by Fun Force. This is a break dance show. Crowds were everywhere and it was very hard to see. People lined the stairs and any available area all the way up the ship to see them. It was entertaining. There were audience members involved too if you are interested in "playing along".

Dinner: We had Veal Parmesan and Turkey. I did not love the Turkey and will not order that one again. Elizabeth, my daughter, came to dinner for a while but did not stay long. She ordered the Spring Chicken or something like that. She did not like the smell of it and she had to excuse herself to get air. (She can be sensitive to smells and textures of things.)

There were a lot of people gathered in the lobby area again tonight. They seem to enjoy the "Just Duet" group that plays at night. Dancing and singing along. There were a lot of people dancing outside casino too. They were playing the same songs as sailaway if you are interested in that. There were a few complaints by people passing by because of the crowd but people had a lot of fun.

We did not go to the Adult Circus Side Show that was held about midnight. I heard from our table mates that it was fun. (18 and older for sure).

I got the turkey last time on the Inspiration and I had the same impression of it as you--never again. Fortunately, there were plenty of other things to eat.

Thanks for the review, we are sailing in Oct and I was wondering about Dolphin Cove. We have one who wants to swim with the sharks, two with the dolphins and the other 3 don;t want to swin with any of them so is it possible to watch the people withthe dolphins and sharks just by going to the cove?
Thanks

There is a boardwalk that you watch them from. I don't know how well you can see them with the dolphins but the sharks are right there. I would be watching from the shore for the most part too. I thought it was a good place to go once. I don' t know if I would go again just because there is more to see and do.
