Question Exchange a Gift? Anyone? - Wine for Champaign

Anyone ever receive a gift from while on a cruise (bottle of wine or champaign) and want to exchange it? Occasionally we recieve a gift of Champaign but we'd much rather have a bottle of red wine. I inquired at the Gifts and Gear desk and was told I'd have to ask the Guest Relations desk upon arrival at the ship. Anyone else ever have this situation?

A couple of years ago we tried to exchange a gift of white wine for the red and were denied the change. We also once tried to trade up (we would pay the difference of the gift to a better bottle) and again we were denied. There was some jabber about the gifts area was a different department from the dining room so no changes could be made

We changed a bottle of red wine for another bottle of red wine once on the Monarch, we spoke with one of the bar managers and he took care of it for us. Willard

We changed a bottle of red for a bottle of white in the dining room with no problem. The waiter just told us that if our replacement bottle was of a higher price then he would have to charge us the difference. Seemed fair to me.

Default Wine Policy

Up until our last cruise on the Explorer in May, we have always been allowed to exchange wine. In our case, red for white. However, in May when we asked at the guest relations desk we were told that it is no longer allowed. Some story about the gift wine coming from outside and not being able to exchange it for the ship's supply. Doesn't all RCCL's wine come from outside? I'm not happy with RCCL's new wine policy. 1) Not being allowed to exchange wine. 2) Being charged a $12 corkage fee to bring a gift bottle of wine from your cabin to the dining room.
