It is a major shipping lane, I don't think there is a water taxi?

I have never seen anything in San Pedro like is offered in Fort Lauderdale when it comes to water taxis.

I live in San Pedro and there are no water taxis. All of the restaraunts shops and hotels are on the same side of the harbor, and the only thing on the side opposite the cruise terminal is Terminal Island Federal Corrections institute, container berths and a military facility. There is a little trolly (red car) which runs along the waterfront down towards the marinas. During the season there are whale watching trips out of the harbor and the terminal for Catalina Express is across from the cruise terminal and there is WWII ship next to it which is open as a museum.
S.S. Lane Victory Come aboard this 10,000 ton, fully operational World War II cargo ship, restored and operated the all volunteer crew of the U.S. Merchant Marine Veterans of WWII. It is dedicated as a living memorial to the civilian merchant marine and the Naval Armed Guard lost at sea.
Tour the engine room, 'man' the big guns, browse our two great museums as we steam the blue pacific. These cruises recall the adventures of the Lane Victorys' service in World War II, Korea and Viet Nam Open daily at the dock, visitors can go from the bridge, to the engine room and through to the cargo holds. Not wheelchair-accessible, No sandals or high heels. Open for self-guided tours from 9:00a.m. - 3:00p.m. Guided tours by reservation. Group rates available for tours. Donation: $3.00 per adult, $1.00 per child 15 and under, One hour free parking.

Hope you enjoy your cruise.

Cool -- thanks for sharing this. Now I want to sail out of LA so I can visit . . . I love ship museums.

The Lane Victory also makes several day trips to sea during the year with a real live air attack by restored fighter planes.

Shows what I know. I thought it was a working ship that was docked. They keep it really looking good.

Default water taxi

Yes, there is a water taxi in San Pedro. It goes over to the Queen Mary (dock is actually at the Coast Hotel) and then back to Seaport Village and along the LB coast line. It isn't the same as the one in FLL because as an earlier poster said, there's virtually nothing on the other side except the QM, Coast Hotel, and Carnival dock. Oh and the boat to Catalina. Not exciting, but if you are staying at the Coast Hotel, it's an easy way to get to the restaurants on the inland side (the restaurant at the Coast Hotel is not wonderful - or at least it wasn't a year ago).

I called the San Pedro Harbor water taxi which is used exclusively for access to boats. San Pedro is the primary harbor for Princess and RCCL. Carnival berths in Long Beach Harbor. The City of Long Beach transit system runs a water taxi and aquabus to the attractions there, the Queen Mary, Hotel Maya, Catalina Landing, the Aquarium of the Pacific, Pine Avenue and Shoreline Village, all of which are in Long Beach, a separate harbor from San Pedro, and about 6 miles away. The Aqua Link also in Long Beach goes to the Queen Mary, the Aquarium and Los Alamitos, all south of San Pedro. To my knowledge there is no water taxi for tourists in San Pedro, and that is because there is nowhere within the San Pedro harbor to go. Seaport Village is walking distance from the cruise line terminal, there is a trolley and anything that a tourist would want to see (unless you really want an up close and personal view of the federal prison) is on the west side of the harbor (including all hotels.) If I am incorrect, please give me the phone number of the water taxi service (other than U.S. Water Taxi who I have already called) as I would love to take a water taxi around San Pedro harbor just to get out on the water between cruises, otherwise I will just go to Catalina.
