Default Venice on a Sunday

Was just matching the days of the week to the dates for our Grand Mediterranean cruise and it turns out we will be in Venice from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning. And with Italy being Italy, shops are almost always closed on a Sunday and even Monday morning.

Last time I was in Venice it wasn't a Sunday, but I wanted to ask those of you who were in Venice on Sunday - were ALL the shops and restaurants/cafes closed (like in Piazza San Marco), or were some of the touristy shopes and cafes still open?

Please let me know. Thanks!

We were in Venice on a Sunday last May. We spent the morning walking through residential neighborhoods which was a great way to observe the local life. Many shops and restaurants were open by lunchtime so we had plenty to do. I'm not sure if this varies depending on the time of year.
Enjoy!

Hi
We were in Venice on a Sunday last month. It was very busy with about 4 other ships in. The shops, cafes etc were all open. (They want your money)
It's a memorable sail in to Venice & being Sunday - the church bells were ringing Have a great cruise

We were there last October; boarded on Saturday, and had all day Sunday in Venice before sailaway. Every shop we saw was open, as well as all the street vendors, gondola rides, etc. Even made it to Harry's Bar, to the detriment of my credit card (but still worth it!).

Thanks everyone! My guide book and some websites I found on Google said shops were closed Sunday, which is why I got concerned. I remember being in Cologne, Germany on a Sunday and EVERYTHING was closed. We had 3 hours spare time and we just wandered the streets. I was hoping my experience in Venice won't be like that.

It'd be even better if the designer shops (lilke Louis Vuitton and Gucci) are open!

As long as the gelato and souvenir shops are open, I'd be happy as a clam!
