The Love Boat: We missed the Princess cruise deadline sharing anyway!

My fiancé and I met aboard the Emerald Princess on its first season in the Caribbean. I was travelling with a group of 14 friends including their parents and children. I almost did not go, you see, I had previously lost my wife due to an illness and was still not feeling 100%. Looking for love was the last thing on my mind. I finally said to myself. ‘What are you waiting for; you need to live life.’ I’m so glad I made that choice as fate had much more in store for me.

Once the decision was made to make the ten day voyage, ‘my future Love Boat’, the anticipation grew as my friends and I boarded the glorious Emerald Princess. What a ship! Being a boater, I was mesmerized at the grandeur of this floating palace.

The first full night at sea, a couple of my friends and I decided to go to the anytime dining. The maître de asked if we minded sitting with some other people, we replied, no problem. We were seated with four lovely ladies who all had pink shirts on that said, ‘what happens with the girlfriends stays with the girlfriends’. We soon found out that these were the Golden Girls. They are a group of ladies who meet on cruises about once a year. One of these ladies was my future fiancé, Jen. We had such a blast that we decided to meet again the next night and the wheels of romance were set in motion.

As the cruise progressed, Jen and I spent more and more time together, from just sitting by the pool, wine tasting, shore excursions and fantastic evening shows, our relationship grew.

Was this just a ten day fling that ended in our departure in Fort Lauderdale? That was the question we both had on our minds as we sadly said goodbye, especially since Jen lived on the East coast of the USA and I lived on the West coast of Canada, a 3003 mile gap.

As time marched on, we kept in contact to learn more about ourselves and to meet our respective friends and family. I now have a fiancée and a wonderful 16 year old daughter.

The relationship has led to our plans to tie the knot in March of 2010. Our obvious choice was to do this aboard our Love Boat, the Emerald Princess. Our last count shows us at over 40 friends and family joining us for our dream cruise.

This is for real folks. The Love Boat is a reality for us. It’s not just a TV Show.
