Frank Del Rio, the Chairman & CEO of Prestige Cruise Holdings, the parent corporation of RSSC and Oceania Cruises, wants to know your opinions of the current dress codes onboard the RSSC vessels.
We would be extremely appreciative if all of our loyal Regent guests and Cruise Critic readers would take a moment to weigh in and vote in the poll to let us know if you like formal nights or would prefer the Elegant Casual dress code for the duration of your cruise experience. Many thanks in advance! Tim Rubacky Prestige Cruise Holdings |

much too hard to travel with all this luggage. For women it is easy, but for men, there is a LOT more to take. My husband wears size 14 shoe and that alone weighs a ton!

LOL - I could not agree more. My "gunboats" are only size 12 and I thought that I had it bad! Best, Tim |

I liked the OLD dress code. If I didn't want to dress for dinner I would go on a less formal line. If I can afford REGENT, I can can afford to schlep a tux. Please don't turn Regent into a clone of Oceania.

SMALL POINT. We are on two segments starting September 7, and for all those TWO SEGMENTS, there is ONE FORMAL NIGHT and we had to drag all those clothes for one time in something like 20 days. Give me a break. And on the other hand, I don't want to have to stay in my cabin or not be able to get a cocktail because I am not dressed right. Those two segments are more than sold out WITHOUT A BUNCH OF FORMAL NIGHTS.

Making Regent full-time Elegant Casual does not make it a clone of Oceania. Perhaps we Regent loyalists should focus on the clear differences between the two lines, rather than the ways in which they are similar. Further, no one considers Sea Dream to be anything other than a luxury line; and it is elegant casual.

My DH thinks that men of a "certain age" look horrible in a tux (turkey necks hanging). Regent is known as a casually elegant luxury cruise line. Nice sports jackets (no ties) look so much better than penguins walking around.
And, please, try to avoid using Oceania and Regent in the same sentence. Oceania is a wonderful cruise line. . . . however, it is not (and hopefully never will be) what Regent is. Regent loyalists have real concerns about Regent losing it's identity.

Because of the luggage and weight issues we all face with international travel , I vote for the elegant casual. The formal nights have been nice but so can an elegant casual night. I would add this is especially true for locations like the Caribbean and Alaska cruises.
I would also add that it is nice to see the Regent managment seeking input from its loyal customers. |

While he owns four tuxedos and we fly first class and do not have weight issues, we feel that we want to be on "vacation". He notes that many of the women are the ones who prefer the more dressier codes. He wanted to point out that Elegant Casual does not mean that you can't dress with a suit or a wonderful sport jacket, but it does give a gentleman the option of not having to wear a tie and be "a penguin" as another poster put it. He and I both feel that we know enough to dress well for dinner. We don't want to come in "sweat suits" and personally feel the issue of golf shirts tiresome--we just would like to have an option and not be forced into a "code". We don't want to be "sent to our room" if we don't "dress right". All of those who feel that you want to "dress up" because this is a special occasion for you should continue to wear your tuxedos and go to the dining room as you wish. We would just like to have the option to dress in an elegantly casual manner.

While ALL men look great(or at least better) in a Tux, it is unnecessay and the sports jacket without tie and a nice shirt and slacks still looks good, travels light, is more comfortable, modern and can be classey without being stuffy. Last edited by Barrister42; September 1st, 2009 at 11:39 PM. |

Charity balls and cruise ships seem to be the only place tuxes are worn any more. I vote to make it charity balls only.

Have always liked to wear a tux, and have carried it several cruises. We have several formal nights on our South American cruise, I mix straight ties or bow tie for a change. The ladies look so elegant so lets keep it
Just my opinion .

I much prefer elegant casual throughout the cruise. I own a tux. I also own a suit!
However, I am not about to pack and transport them for one or two nights' use. On previous cruises with RSSC, SS, Seabourn and others I have simply had dinner in the cabin in order not to have to dress up. Thanks for asking.

Although we love dressing up and my husband loves to wear his white dinner jacket, the international travel is an issue with the formal nights. For our sailing on the Voyager coming up in 5 days, he has to bring heavy shoes and such (while my little dressy sandals weigh only 7 oz - yes I weighed them on my postal scale to see how many I can sneak into my bag!)
It's much easier for women. So I think taking out the formal nights would be nice for packing.

I would prefer the retention of Informal nights in lieu of Formal nights. I think wearing a sports coat is not a hardship yet provides a little more formality to the dining rooms.

I have voted for "no change". I don't own a Tux but do have a dark suit and tie, which I prefer to a tieless sports coat for functions like the Capt's Reception and SS Reception. I hope the golf / polo shirt nonsense is stopped for other nights.

We are on board the Voyager right now.
My husband and I agreed that with only one formal night and our travels before and after the sailing, he would only bring a sports coat and wear it with dark slacks and tie on the only formal night. We skipped the captain's reception since we didn't quite feel properly dressed, but kept our reservation in Signatures. Quite interesting, there was no one in a tux in Signatures and actually quite a few men that did not even wear ties with their sports coats. I wonder how many like us skipped the captains reception for the same reason - perhaps they should have a Regent employee just look around on the current formal nights to see what people are currently doing. We like dressing up a bit for dinner, my husband always wears a sports coat and a nice shirt on all nights of the cruise. We've been on Raddison / Regent for 12 years and this is the first time we didn't bring formal wear - so perhaps times are changing. P.S. Having a wonderful time - ships looks great, Prime 7 was marvelous!
