Default Dining Rm Mgr and table assignments

For the first time, I booked late and don't have my cabin or dining assignment. Really regretting this and definitely won't do it again.

So, though I'm not a real newbie at cruising, I am facing some new challenges. I'd really like Main Seating at a table for 8. I know I won't find out til check in. If I don't get what I want, I know I can go check with the DRM when I board. The question, yes I know it's a "personal choice", is whether a tip is expected if I'm accomodated.

As DH prefers to eat in the Lido I am on my own in the MDR. More than once I have approached the DRM to be seated at a large table, I prefer 10. Generally speaking when you are a single there is no problem fitting you in at a large table. I have never offered a gratuity for this. To be perfectly honest it never occured to me to do so. I may have been lax in not doing so but they are always unfailingly polite if I made a mistake they were kind enough not to let it show.

No tip is necessary if the dining room manager accommodates your request, nor will giving them a "tip" in advance influence your chances.

It sounds to me that you are cruising solo. It's possible that you can get main seating at a large table. I can see it easier to move a solo person better than a couple or group. I really don't see where a tip would be expected.
I agree with you about booking late for a cruise is the limited choices that you have (but it balance out with often getting a great rate), but when I do book a cruise late, I just go with the flow.
Happy sailing!!

You shouldn't have a problem getting your request since it is for just one person.

And you do not need to tip.

Verbal tips and/or thoughts of the day are OK after your business with the DRM is completed and you have your new table reservation firmly in hand!! Such as:

If the cops arrest a mute, do they tell him he has the right to remain silent?

If a book about failures doesn't sell, is it a success?

Hermits have no peer group pressure.

Why are cigaretes sold in gas stations when smoking is prohibited there?

Why in a country of free speech, are there ' phone bills?

Can you be a closet claustrophobic?

If a man is in a forest talking to himself with no women around, is he still wrong?

Man's commonest fault is not knowing what he doesn't know.

To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research.

I don't want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve immortality through not dying.

By the time you can make ends meet, they move the ends.

Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.

Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it.

The cure for insomnia is to get more sleep.

Everyone should have a spouse, because there are a number of things that go wrong that one can't blame on the government.

Thirty-five is when you finally get your head together and your body starts falling apart.

If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to serve as a horrible warning.

Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hair stylist you like.

One of the life's mysteries is how a two pound box of candy can make a person gain five pounds.

You know you're into middle age when you realize that caution is the only thing you care to exercise.

If the dining room manager fulfills your request, and you are happy about it, you can mention it on the feedback survey they give you to fill out before disembarkation.

Default Table for 8 at 8:00PM

a seat at a big table at second (Main) sitting is nearly always the easiest to get in HAL ships.

You should be able to be assigned Main Upper Dining as a solo traveler. It would be unusual he couldn't find a nice seat for you.

No need to tip. We never have and would not do so.

Hope you have wonderfully interesting and fun tablemates.

Have a great cruise.
