Default Taking a Souvenir from the Beach

Hi! I know, I know...everyone says not to take sand from the beaches people visit while taking Carnival cruises. "Just imagine if everyone did that, there would be no more beach!"

But, what about a small amount of sea water from the beach? Would it really make that much of a difference if "everyone" did it?

We were just in Grand Turk and there was sea glass everywhere. I make jewelry and brought some back. Alot of people were collecting it. Also there were huge conch shells. They looked like they came from the souvenier shop. They were in perfect condition and alot of people were bringing them back. Not sure what happened when they went through customs. Ive thought of collecting sand from every island ive been to especially St. Lucia with the pink sand but never got around to it.

Great comeback! But...to answer my question, would it make that much of a difference if everyone did it?

Yes, I agree about the tuna fish sandwich... Are you able to answer my question? Thanks.

The sand is replenished with the tide and storms and is always remaking it selve by erosion, I doubt it would make a difference if everyone just took a little.

I brought sea glass home from Grand Cayman 10 years ago. It sits in a sweet depression glass vase on my dining room table. I smile every time I see it, and I can get transported there immediately just by looking at it. Great trip. Great port of call.

Generally speaking, you can collect shells, seaglass and other items along the high tide line with no problems.... Sand would be the exception on many islands.

Does this mean that you are unable to answer my question?

I got 5 different colors of it and am going to put it in some kind of container and display it also.

What does this have to do with the OP's question?

Me personally I collect sand from every beach I go to! I don't think it is that big of a deal if you take sand or water from the ocean. I just would not bring anything that is living.

You're talking about bringing the water back with you? Well, with the rate the polar ice caps are melting.... maybe you'd be doing a favour by taking some of it back out again

No, I really don't see any problem with taking some sea water with you. You bring it back with you on your clothes and bathing suit and towels and hair anyway. It's a veritable 'drop in the ocean'

Umm, this thread is about taking souvenirs from the beach, the poster is just discussing what they brought back. It may not have answered your question, but IMO, they are still on topic. Lighten up!

Non-sterile water in a non-sterile container will get.....funky.

Learned that from experience when my sister brought back some water from somewhere-or-other. It went nasty in a very short amount of time. I wouldn't recommend it.

The title of his comment was "taking a souvenir from the beach" Did you not read that or are you just being mean? If he only meant sand then why didnt he say that.

People don't say that. They would sound very stupid if they did.

If every cruiser took a few ounces of sand from every beach they visited... there would be zero impact. The cruisers are too few and the volume of sand is too great.
