Question Smooth Sailing?

Hello,
I was wondering what the conditions are like sailing from Vancouver on the Inside Passage/Alaska trip...We have sailed the Carribean, Atlantic and Pacific around Mexico. We noticed that the waters were rougher in the Pacific. What should we expect sailing north? I bought some Bonine today but thought I would find out what your experience has been. We are sailing out Sunday, September 13...We are mid ship on deck 6 on the Statendam so I am hoping it will be less prone to rough waters...

Thanks!
Tracy

We just returned from cruising the Inside Passage two weeks ago. Smooth as glass the entire distance. Since there are land masses on the seaward side, the Passage is well protected from all but the most robust Pacific storms.

two years ago on southbound Statendam in Sept we did encounter some rough water during the night when we passed a small area that was opened out to the Pacific. This lasted about 20 min. and the Captain was warned of this water from a Princess ship that was ahead of us. We were on the lower decks and the tray with the glasses on it went sliding but I caught it. A friend higher up felt the turbulance more and the next day the staff was cleaning up broken bottles in the liqour store and glassware in the Pinnacle. This was a odd happening. Bonine should be fine.

We did a back to back 14 day cruise on Statendam on Aug. 16th. The first week the water was smooth as glass. On the return trip we encountered strong winds late in the afternoon after leaving College Fjord and had 7 & 1/2 ft swells (we were out in the Gulf of Alaska) for most of the night---the rest of the trip was smooth as glass as well! Have a great cruise!

Just the one area between the northern tip of Vancouver Island and the Queen Charlotte Islands is a bit rough at times. But that is normally done during the first night out while your sleeping most of the time. My ex wife wouldn't cruise because of seasickness and it was the only night she took a Bromine. Rest of the cruise was has smooth has glass. A lot different for those folks that leave from Seattle has they are on the West side of Vancouver Island in open water's.

Just heard the weather forecast for the Seattle area (which often spreads north) and we are due for some nice weather to settle in the end of this week.
