Angry Hc balcony cost more

trying to book RCL allure BUT the HC balcony cabins begin at D5 which cost $70 more per person than the regular balcony which begins at D8. why are the cruise ships allowed to make me upgrade to a higher price cabin?

Because they can. There is no requirement that they offer a handicap-accessible cabin in EVERY category, just that they offer some cabins. And they do.

I'd love to have a handicap-accessible suite...but I don't know of any lines that offer those, either.

Our room on Holland America's Westerdam was a Deluxe Veranda Suite and was very nice

We had a Sky Suite on Celebrity Century last summer that was fully HC-accessible, and it was terrific. 1200 and 1201. Really recommend them and the ship.

One of the reasons the accessible cabin may cost more is because they are usually centrally and conviently located near a bank of elevators and those cabins have traditionally been preferred and more costly. The OP complains about paying $70 more; there are some of the smaller ships that have only inside accessible cabins - no balconies. So be grateful that you can at least get what you want albeit at a slight increase in price.
And the coin has 2 sides; I would like to be able to book an accessible suite on RCCL Radiance class, but the highest catergory they have is Junior Suite which does not have access to the Concierge Lounge that a full suite does. The whole travel industry for those of us who have a handicap is one compromise after another. But I for one am grateful they do have accessible cabins even though I may have to book many months in advance to get one you need to be flexible and grateful too

If we wern't going to a HC cabin on Princess we would book a BC balcony cabin. On Princess an HC balcony in BC is exactly the same price as a regular BC.

Just to be clear, I don't think the OP is saying that there is an additional charge simply because the cabin is HC but, instead, is disappointed that the least expensive HC balcony cabins are D5 rather than the lowest priced balcony category which is D8. I'm not sure which ship enyliram is talking about but would assume that it may be an older ship that converted the cabin to be HC and that the location and category may be based on a number of factors, as leoandhugh indicated.

We have booked an HC balcony cabon on RC's Liberty of the Seas. It is category E2 which is the lowest priced balcony cabin category offered and was priced the same as any other E2 cabin. So, we were not required to upgrade to book a balcony but, as leoandhugh stated, I don't believe that there are any HC suites above a JS which has limited amenities. So, if we were expecting to spend more to get suite, our choices would have been limited.

As a side note, we have recently been able to take advantage of numerous RC price drops and are paying much less for our next cruise than expected.

i am referring to the allure of the seas.HC begin at cat D5. there are categories for balconies that are less expensive at cat D8 D7 and D6, but not HC . i too had wonderful HC E2 on the independence of the seas and the liberty of the seas.

So disappointing that this is the case on a brand new ship. For as many cabins as Allure of the Seas has, there are surprisingly few HC cabins. On a positive note, though, there are a couple of HC Crown Loft suites - finally something above a Junior Suite.

Are you sure you've checked all the decks? I am looking on the Oasis (which should be the same) and see an accessible D7 (as well as D2 and D4) on deck 9. There appears to be another 1 or 2 on deck 10. I'm actually pretty impressed with the wide variety of cabin types available for accessibles.

And they even have an accessible Crown Loft Suite which is way out of our buget but has got to be fantastic!

thank you. i must correct my original post. HC balcony cabin availability at D7 level. this is one step higher than the least expensive D8 which does not offer HC balcony.
