Default One more question about "guarantee" cats

I posted previously about Balcony guarantee vs Promenade Room. I took a look on RCCL's website and it appears that there are balconies available in all cats, Decks 6-10 and several to choose from.

For those who have booked Guarantees before, what has your experience been on how "nice" they are to you? If there are a lot of balconies available can I hope to get one of the nicer ones?

PS we sail in Jan.

you roll the dice and take your chances, that's what a GTY is about. You trade selecting a cabin for one they assign you. if you're worried don't do it.

You take your chances, thats why you pay a lower price. To answer your actual question. I haven't actually booked a GTY but from what I have read about here, I suspect upgrades a not the norm. You Do hear about them though. So, I think it would be wise to hope for the best but expect the worst.

I just had my first experience with a balcony guarantee. I booked an E2 Guarantee and was upgraded to a D1 category balcony but the cabin they assigned me was very forward. I checked what cabins were available in that category on ********** and found a couple I would be really happy with. RCCL switched me to the cabin of my choice within the category they had assigned. I was very happy.

Other people have said if you didn't like your cabin you could be put back into the guarantee "pool" but this worked for me.

With kind of abuse we can expect the GTY category to disappear like all the other things that were abused.

We recently did a oceanview guarantee and was upgraded to a balcony - It was $500 cheaper to do a guarantee and then we got a $400 upgrade.

We have booked balcony guarantee cabins a couple of times and have always been pleased. We had originally booked a hump D1 for our recent TA on Independence and took the balcony gurantee to get about 50% savings. We ultimately ended up with a D2 on the same deck, the first D cabin aft of the hump -- about 4 or 5 doors from where we started. Same size cabin for half price -- you can't beat it. We also took a balcony gurantee on our Med cruise on Splendour in '07. The guarantee allowed us to upgrade to a balcony for what we were going to pay for an OV on 6. We ended up on 7, near the elevators. The location was great from my point of view. As I recall, we were allowed to choose from the cabins in the guaranty category.

Not entirely certain I understand steponboard's comment, but I don't see selecting from what's available in the guarantee pool as "abuse." Ultimately, you are at their mercy and they put the cabins in the pool they want to. But if they let you choose within certain parameters, how is that abuse?

I cant believe how a couple of posters on here are reacting to the poster about changing cabins and free wine............OH PLUUUUUZE.........

When I book a guarantee and its not the best location,I call and ask if I can just have another cabin in that same category...............Not once, has RCCL told me no.........so until they do,I will continue to do so........

as far as having 3 drinks at the parties, whats wrong with that?? if those servers are walking around with trays, thats what it is there for...........after all, how much could that wine cost to begin with???????and I dont think she was bragging........just a little joke,in regards to steponboards' comment.....

Understand where we are coming from....we are booked into a Promenade Room. We are not booked into a Balcony and hoping to get a "better" one. The thought of having ANY balcony at all is thrilling to me as I was not thinking one would be in my price range with this trip. To maybe get a balcony for a little less than the Promenade Room? Nothing wrong with that. I just want to make sure I am not going to be somewhere "awful" is all. I am sure any balcony would be nice.

And three glasses of wine? OH WELL...have at it....lol. A little sense of humour goes a long way.

I agree...in fact anyone who can actually stand to drink 3 glasses of "la terrible" deserves a medal in my opinion...

Which is it, any balcony would be thrilling or some are awful? You want your cake and eat it too. A GTY is not for you, YOU want a mid ship cabin and so in order to GTY that you must book it and PAY for it. The something for nothing attitude amazes me.

The first two glasses numb the taste buds, so the third is actually a breeze - it is the first two that are brutal.

Mom 2two2: I had a balcony guarantee, and just noticed on the website, that i have an assigned room now. Its in the D2 Category, and on the 8th deck. Looks pretty good. It is a Superior Ocean View which is supposed to be better than a deluxe, although there are 2 levels of each : D1, D2 and E1, E2. I think the D2 they gave me is good. I've never stayed at the back of the ship before though, so i hope we don't feel seasick at all. Never have in the past.

Agree with you 100% on this. Tried it for a couple of nights and finally had to give up.

Take my opinion w/ a grain of salt, but it seems like there are a lot fewer objectionable locations for balconies than there are for insides or oceanviews. They're all higher up, so there's little risk of noise from the thrusters/motor/anchor/gangway/what have you. I just think that a balcony gty is less of a gamble than a gty in a lower category.
