Good evening all,
First off, let me start by saying I know this is not a medical board, and I am not looking for that type of advice, I am just wanting to hear from those who have cruised after bypass, and how they handled things ![]() With that being said, haha... Can you throw out some pointers as to what you did at meal times? DESSERT time?! I am not a drinker, so I am not worried about that at all. Water is my favorite thing to drink, so all is well there. I just worry about how I am going to sit next to that dear husband of mine who will eat about four lobster tails on that night, and who knows what else! The great thing is I know I can't consume a lot, but I would love to at least sample things. Does that make sense? I may be rambling, but if you have had the surgery, maybe you will know what I am talking about ![]() I literally just had my surgery one week ago, and I cruise on the 3rd of January. The great thing is, I will be packing smaller clothes for the first time ever! Thanks in advance to all! Sharon |

Congrats Sharon, and I can't help you.
Just wanted to say I'am happy for you, and that my brother had GB surgery about 4 years ago, and went on a cruise. Of course he still has food issues, but doing great. I don't know half as much as you, but can't you "sample" bites?

I had GB in 2003. I have cruised several times since then with no problems. Of course the number one thing that you will have to deal with is the
or the from the waiters, as they remove your plates from the table. On the first night, I just let them know that I am unable to eat very much. That usually takes care of the questions like (you don't like your food? Is everything ok? Aren't you feeling well, etc). Since I am at goal, and have been for several years, I will allow myself one of the sugar free desserts. You will be full from your meal anyway, and probably only have a few bites. Also, the cafe or room service is a godsend, for your afternoon and late evening snack. Remember, we have to eat just a little bit, a lot more often. |

I am sure my husband will finish whatever I don't
I am just going to have to remember to order what I want to try the most (skip the salads! HAHA). I love steaks, so I hope by then I am able to order one and chew to my hearts content! Thanks for responding, I appreciate it! Sharon |

Even now, If I wanted some steak, I would filch a few bites from DH...firm meat like steak is very filling. Me...I would prob order a seafood thing, or chicken/pasta thing and share with the hubby. Not kidding... depending on the job that your surgeon did, you should only be able to eat about 4 bites of meat, plus sides..
